The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State was, on Friday, thrown into a frenzy after a mammoth crowd mobbed Senator Dino Melaye in Lokoja.

The usual free flow of traffic was impeded in the state’s capital when the former Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District was spotted in a black SUV.

The erstwhile lawmaker, who was seen smiling and waving at the cheering crowd, prompted many residents and market women to abandon their shops in an effort to catch a glimpse.

TheNigerian News had earlier reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) had fixed December 16th as the date for the Kogi West Senatorial District elections involving Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party and Senator Smart Adeyemi of the APC.

The bye-election came on the heels of the nullification of Melaye’s election by the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal which was subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal.

Dino Melaye's election was clearly not a fluke. However, recent political events have shown that how popular you are with voters is not what gurantees electoral victory. Anyways, may the favourite of the lectorates in Kogi West be elected.
