The Abuja Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on October 30, 2019 arraigned the duo of Ugbede Hassan Ocholi and Ngbegha Job Aondona before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja on a seven count charge bordering on internet fraud and obtaining under false pretence. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges read against them. Justice Abang granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1, 500,000 each. They are also to deposit their international passports with the court registry and must not travel outside of the court’s jurisdiction without permission of court. Nonsense. This game of musical chairs does not impress anyone with common sense... A meaningless, endless, roundabout sisyphean routine is what this is. Signifies nothing and achieves nothing. 6 Likes |

This year belongs to internet fraudsters without a doubt. The day isn't complete without a front-page news of another set of 'yahoo-yahoo' boys apprehended by EFCC. Wonder if someone influential in government just woke up one morning after being scammed and called Magu while shouting on top of his voice: 'Go after Yahoo boys!!! Arrest them ALL!!!' Cos, I mean, why now? This internet scam thingy has been going on for ages in this country. I remember a plethora of them doing their business freely back when I was in college. Why did it take so long for the government to really decide to clamp down on it? At the end of the day, poverty and crime are inseperable. They go hand in hand. If the government really wants to reduce crime rates and fraud, they need to start doing things to improve the economy and lift the masses from extreme poverty, if not, I'm afraid there ain't enough prison cells in the country for people who are willing to break out of the rat race by hook or by crook. 14 Likes 1 Share |
