Controversy has trailed the announcement of the upcoming military nationwide exercise called Operation Positive Identification (OPI). In fact, Segalink is of the opinion that it means kissing democracy goodbye.

A lot of well meaning Nigerians took to the internet and media platform to express their fears and concerns about OPI, mostly due to the fact that the details of the Operation was not totally revealed as it was shrouded in secrecy.

Today however, the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Barutai took his time to clear the air on OPI, revealing that the exercise is not entirely a new development as the military has held successful subsidiary operations in the course of the year.

Taking questions from the House of Representatives Committee on Army in Abuja, the General made it known that the military had a tradition of setting off operations towards the end of the year to reduce crime during the festive period.
