Ilorin,kwara,kogi where part of the southern protectorate.

This is a book written in the early century.

All of the south from lokoja where rule by George Goldie of the Royal niger company, while Lord lugard capture and rule the North which was the sokoto caliphate. The sokoto caliphate was rule by lord lugard before the almagamation of Nigeria in 1914 under lord lugard.

This is a prove that Lord lugard was in charge of the north, and it is was just above the river niger and Benue before the almagation of nigeria.

this are book which were written more than 70 years ago. And this writers witness and lived in Nigeria at about that time.

The Southern Protectorate  was form in 1900, there was none, before this time, which did include Ilorin. Britain won against the Sokoto calliphate in 1902. But ilorin was already part of the control of the Southern Protectorate in control of  George Goldie.

When lord lugard won against the north above the river niger and benue, he control it, while  George Goldie control the  Southern Protectorate .  until 1914 while because of the finance cost of the Northern protectorate, both went under lord lugard.  This is what the books are saying.

There was no  Southern Protectorate   when the anglophone treaty between France and Britain about Benin republic was signed in 1889.

The reason they sign an agreement was because in 1888 the Yoruba refused to be separated from the Yorubas in the republic of Benin.   Yorubas got upset and revolt against britain and now sign a treaty to be under french protectorate. France also agree to build a railway in yorubaland.  Britian quickly rush a gentleman agreement with france . In that treaty it also included that the border can not be closed.

When Nigeria was now Amalgamationin 1914. Lord lugard decided to relocate from Kaduna to Lokoja. There was illiterate in the north at that time, Northerners assume that thier own protectorate included lokoja.  They did not understand what Amalgamation was.  That why till today the northerner assume that part of the country which included Ilorin or jebba to lokoja was part of Northern protectorate.  There was illiterate in the north at that time.  This is how the story looks from book, like it happen. All writer lived in Nigeria at that time.

The author of the book which is memoir, was age 28 years when they occpied Ilorin , he died in 1956 and lived in nigeria for several years. He knew lord lugard and  George Goldie and he also was a member of the Royal army which capture the south.  His name is on some of the treaty signed.

What happened is that some people assume that the sokoto caliphate is the same thing as the Northern protectorate.   But the sokoto caliphate was not the Northern protectorate.

The map we have been wrongly shown as the northern protectorate is really the map of the sokoto caliphate. It is not the map of Northern Protectorate. This is what happened.

another reason why kwara state never appear on the map as southern too , was that .

When the british got to ilorin, there was no emir in ilorin any more, because the emir was drove away from ilorin.   and so nobody was in charge of ilorin , the yorubas remove the emir, the person who was from the yoruba family die.

So this emir , who was a fulani man refuse to follow the real map of the southern protectorate after amalgamation and they continue to use the map of the sokoto caliphate.
