Fire guts another building, which has extended to 5 other buildings at Okobaba Plank Market, Ebute Metta, Lagos State.

It is indeed a sad tale as the 'festival' of fire keeps occuring across the nation. Recall this incident of fire outbreak started in an Onitsha Market, Anambra state and ever since we keep hearing bad news of fire outbreaks in the news. Earlier this week a gutted popular Balogun Market in Lagos today yet another fire incident has made it way to the news.

According to reports, men of the Lagos State Fire Service are yet to be deployed to quench the flames.

However, at the time of filing this report, we could not establish what led to the fire nor the extent of damage it may have caused but report has it that the fire is spreading.

Basic Fire safety requirements are lacking. No extinguishers. Where there are extinguishers, no trained personnel or it is not fit for purpose. Every Fire has specific extinguisher. Example, fires from electrical sources cannot be quenched with water. Only carbon dioxide based extinguisher or dry Power for fires less than 1000volts. Domestic fires are best quenched with wet chemicals. We need basic training in fire safety and Fire drills. This is imperative as the Dry season sets in.
