Intuition: the Function of the Spirit

Key Scriptures: “The spirit indeed is WILLING but the flesh is weak” Matt. 26:41.

“PERCEIVING in his spirit” Mark 2:8. “He SIGHED deeply in his spirit” Mark 8:12.

“My spirit REJOICES in God my Savior” Luke 1:47.

“The true worshipers will WORSHIP (Communion) the Father in spirit and TRUTH” John 4:24. “He was DEEPLY MOVED in spirit and was TROUBLED” John 11:33.

The above key scriptures depict the various sensing of man’s spirit. In the spirit the believer is made willing (led), he can perceive, he can rejoice, he can worship and can be deeply moved, also troubled. We will endeavor to shed light and learn as much as the Lord permits about this spiritual sensing called “intuition”.

Webster defines intuition as “the direct knowing or learning of something without the conscious use of reasoning: immediate comprehension or understanding: something known or learned in this way (by intuition). The ability to perceive or know something without conscious reasoning (the use of the mind). A good example: How do we know we are saved? How do we know and who told us that we (know without a doubt) are children of God. The Holy Spirit told us!! In what part of man did He give this information? In our spirit!!!
The process is found in Romans 8:16 “The (Holy) Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are children of God” (KJV). The New Living states “For his (Holy) Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children”. Now let us clarify a couple of terms: The meaning of “knowing” and “understanding”. The spirit “knows” while the mind “understands”. Knowing is the work of intuition in the spirit; understanding, is the job of the mind.

Please note: THE HOLY SPIRIT ENABLES OUR SPIRIT TO KNOW; OUR SPIRIT INSTRUCTS THE MIND TO UNDERSTAND. I pray that the Lord will give you light to comprehend the above because that is the key to walking in the Spirit.
I would like to give you a word about the soul and the spirit. Like the soul the spirit has its own thoughts, feeling, and desires. We must learn to distinguish the spiritual from the soulish. The way God ordains for His children to walk is to walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-18). All other paths belong to the old nature and therefore posses no spiritual value. But how do we walk in the spirit? It is living by our spirit’s sensing. Our intuition expresses the thoughts of our spirit which in turn expresses the mind of God.

If we walk according to the soul we are controlled by our mind, emotions and will, all of which can not receive the mind of the Lord so therefore we are void of God.
We were walking on that path when we were not saved. Sinners bound to the old nature and Satan. Satan can only attack us from the outside which is the lust and sensations of the body, and thoughts of the mind, and emotions of the soul. The Holy Spirit expresses His thoughts through our intuition. To put it into terms which we can comprehend, intuition is the MIND of our spirit. The Holy Spirit dwells in our spirit which is located in the center of our being.

The Holy Spirit’s thoughts are expressed through our intuition (the mind of the spirit) to our spirit. It is a direct process from spirit to spirit. It requires no reasoning, meditation, or processing of thoughts, or investigation.
The Holy Spirit expresses His thoughts directly to our spirit, which we commonly refer to as being MOVED by the Spirit. That MOVING is the Holy Spirit making us know His will intuitively by working upon our spirit. Peter explains this moving by telling us how the prophets spoke. “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: (reasoning of the mind, emotions and will of the soul) but holy men of God spake as they were MOVED by the Holy Ghost” (2Peter1:21) KJV. The prophetic word was not given to the prophet to think about; he just opened his mouth and began to speak.

Not understanding what he spoke he simply obeyed the MOVING of the Holy Spirit in his spirit.
Constantly the Holy Spirit moves us today to pray for someone to visit or call a person but he does not tell us ahead of time what it is all about. If we obey the move of the Holy Spirit we begin to minister to that person. How often we neglect or are all together ignorant of the move of the Spirit. Webster defines the word “move” as follows: “to cause or persuade to act, do, say, speak, to prompt, to arouse or stir the emotions, passions, or sympathy."

The anointing, which we all crave comes through the intuitive function of our spirit. Now the anointing is the work of the Holy Spirit in us. The anointing of the Holy Spirit teaches what we commonly call illumination, which sheds light so we can know the truth. Every child of God has anointing in their spirit because the Holy Spirit dwells there. “But you have an anointing from the Holy One (Holy Spirit) and all of you know the truth. I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, BUT BECAUSE YOU DO KNOW IT” (1John 2:20-21) NIV.

The Apostle John speaks of the operation of intuition when he states that the anointing of the Lord, who dwells in the believer, shall instruct him in all things. It will also enable him to know all so that he has no need for anyone to teach him. Let us look at the scripture, “But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you, but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him” (1John 2:27) NKJ. A word of caution here: John is not ruling out human teachers.
Jesus gave teachers to teach the believers to mature –see Ephesians 4:11-16. What John is talking about here is this. The reality of the truth to our spirit is the work of the Holy Spirit alone. No one can make the truth (which is the Word of God) real. No doubts or questions! Reality to truth comes by the Holy Ghost. The human teachers speak but it is the Holy Spirit that causes us to bear witness to the reality of the word – see John 16:13-14.

The word anointing in the original Greek text means to apply ointment. The Greek word is “chrio” to smear, anoint with oil or ointment, to rub oneself with oil. In the Old Testament the priest and the kings were anointed, signifying that the Holy Spirit had descended upon them – see 1Samuel 16:13. In the New Testament Jesus is the Messiah, the anointed King – in Greek “Christos” which means Christ – see Matthew 3:16; John 1:41 & 4:42. So when we refer to anointing we refer to how the Holy Spirit teaches and speaks in man’s spirit.

The Holy Spirit does not alway speak like a thunder nor does he knock us down to the ground He works very quietly in our spirit to IMPRESS (rub spiritual ointment on our spirit). In the same way that a man’s body feels soothed when ointment is applied, so our spirit gently senses the anointing of the Holy Spirit. When intuition (which is the spiritual sensing) is aware of something, the spirit comprehends what the Holy Spirit is saying.
To perform God’s will a believer needs to pay attention to the direction of his intuition. Any who wish to walk after the spirit must recognize that our responsibility is to accept instruction from the Holy Spirit through the anointing. We need not decide our own way. Whatever is not of the leading of the anointing is but our own doing and not from God. The anointing functions independently. God does not require our help. The Holy Spirit expresses the mind of God, independently of our mind, or emotions. The anointing operates in man’s spirit to enable intuition to know the thoughts of God.
Please take your bible and look up all the scriptures quoted above. You will grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Spirituality and understanding/application of the truth is very essential in one’s walk with the Uncreated One.

Nice one OP

Intuition is a grossly under-utilised God given ability/gift to man. It’s been hardly explored and deployed for decision making and problem solving.

The world tilts more towards logic, rather than a healthy blend of intuition and logic.

Excellent writeup bro!
How I wish most church goers would get this type of teaching from their pastors so they would know the real meaning of anointing.
The created man was fashioned to operate and live on earth by his intuition while his reasoning, volition and emotions follow suit.
The fall of man killed his intuition because fellowship with God became difficult. The right communion with God and a clear conscience is needed to bring man's intuition back to life, only Christ can bring that.
