Located in Leeds in West Yorkshire, the University of Leeds is an open research institution of higher education. The university was formed in 1904 but its first stone was set in the year 1874 as the Yorkshire College of Science. In the year 1884, the Leeds School of Medicine, which was established in 1831, was named again as the Yorkshire College.

The university is built on 1,230 acres of land, with the core campus having 98 acres of area. The main campus is located half a kilometre away from the city centre of Leeds. It compromises of a blend of old and new architectures which makes it one of the most varied campuses in the country. The university includes Parkinson Building, Maurice Keyworth Building, Great Hall Building, Great Hall and Modern Buildings.

The university offers education to more than 33,300 students and thus becomes the 5th largest university in the nation by a number of students. Not just this, it has constantly been ranked amongst the top 5 for the number of applications received in the United Kingdom. The university provides lodgings to not just 1st-year undergraduate students but also to postgraduates, foreign students, staff members and undergraduates who need an alternative space.
