The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended the collation of results of the governorship election in Kogi State.The Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Umar, announced this on Sunday in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.Professor Umar told party agents and other political stakeholders present at the INEC office where the collation of results took place that the exercise would continue by 9am on Monday.He explained that the announcement was necessary as the results of the election in the remaining two local governments have yet to be brought to the collation centre.The announcement followed the collation of results of the election in 19 out of the 21 local government areas (LGAs) in Kogi.Those collated so far are Adavi, Ajaokuta, Ankpa, Bassa, Dekina, Idah, Igalamela-Odolu, Ijumu, and Kabba/Bunu LGAs.Others are Koton Karfe, Mopa-Muro, Ofu, Ogori/Magongo, Okehi, Okene, Olamaboro, Omala, Yagba East, and Yagba West LGAs.The local governments where results are expected are Ibaji and Lokoja LGAs.The incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yahaya Bello, as well as the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP), Musa Wada and Natasha Akpoti, are among the leading contenders in the election.Of the results collated so far, it is a close battle between Bello who won 10 LGAs and Wada who claimed nine LGAs while Natasha has yet to win any local government.However, the governor has so far polled 374,081 votes and taken the lead with over 200,000 votes as his PDP and SDP rivals scored 168,141 and 8,539 votes respectively. 7:27 PM: INEC’s Returning Officer, Professor Ibrahim Umar, announces that collation of results will continue on Monday. 06:53 PM Dekina LGA APC – 8,948 PDP – 16,575 SDP – 321 04:15 PM Bassa LGA APC – 8,386 PDP – 9,724 SDP – 269 04:02 PM Ofu LGA APC – 11,006 PDP – 12,264 SDP – 531 03:39 PM: Ankpa LGA APC – 11,269 PDP – 28,108 SDP – 399 15:38 pm Collation of results resumes. 14: 30pm The Collation Center goes on an hour break. Meanwhile, collation of results is yet to commence for Bayelsa State. 14:24 pm Yagba West APC – 7,868 PDP – 8,860 SDP – 211 The Returning Officer reported that there was one case of ballot snatching. 14:05 pm Olamaboro LGA APC – 16,876 PDP – 8,155 SDP – 262 13:51 pm Idah LGA APC – 4,602 PDP – 13,962 SDP – 221 The Returning Officer stated that there were irregularities such as over-voting and card reader malfunction in some units. 13:39 pm: Ajaokuta LGA APC – 17952 PDP – 5,565 SDP – 323 13:33 pm Mopa-muro LGA APC – 4,953 PDP – 3,581 SDP – 95 13:17 pm Okehi LGA APC – 36,954 PDP – 478 SDP – 3,095 12:49 pm Kabba/Bunu Collation Officer returns to reannounce with results. He says there were some issues in about seven wards. APC – 15,364 PDP – 8,084 SDP – 364 12:40 pm Yagba East LGA APC – 6,735 PDP – 7,546 SDP – 220 12:32 pm: Koton Karfe LGA APC – 14,097 PDP – 9,404 SDP – 657 12:07 pm: Kabba/Bunu APC – 15,364 PDP – 8,084 SDP – 364 The collation officer was, however, stopped from announcing further results and asked to go and reconcile figures for his summary. 11:48 am Okene LGA APC – 112,762 PDP – 139 SDP – 50 11:34 am: Igala Mela/Odolu APC – 8,075 PDP – 11,195 SDP – 208 11:16 am Adavi LGA APC – 64,657 PDP – 366 SDP – 279 PDP agent rejected the results on the basis that the turnout of voters reported by the collation officer is ‘false’. 11:06 am Omala LGA APC – 8,473 PDP – 14,403 SDP – 567 According to the Returning Officer, results were cancelled in five Registration Areas due to violence and disruption of the electoral process and threats to life. 10:57: am Ijumu LGA APC – 11,425 PDP – 7, 587 SDP – 223 The Returning Officer reported cases of violence and card reader malfunction. 10:45 am Ogori-Magongo LGA APC – 3,679 PDP – 2,145 SDP – 244 According to the Returning Officer, elections were peaceful in this LG. 9:30 am: Results for Kogi gov election start arriving at Collation Centre.
