COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLIST CRIES OUT TO IGP ON DAILY EXTORTION BY POLICE ON OYO ROAD.

A graduate of Mechanical Engineering turned Commercial Motorcyclist, Williams Thomas has cried out to the Inspector General of Police(IGP) Muhammad Adamu on daily extortion that some men of the police command operating on Iseyin-Okeho road, Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State are compulsorily and forcefully demanding from the commercial motorcyclists plying the route.

While narrating his and other Motorcyclists' ordeal in the hands of police men operating on the road,Thomas said that all commercial motorcyclists plying the road are daily experiencing serious extortion from the men of police command at each strategic check point.

In his enumeration of the check points on the road, Thomas said that there were almost five check points on the road of twelve(12) kilometres, saying a check point is at Orita junction(leading to four towns: Okeho, Ilua, Ilero and Iseyin), another one Infront of Moshra garden, a kilometre ahead of former.

He also said that there was another one at elewure settlement and the last one at almost two kilometres to Iseyin respectively.

A graduate turned commercial motorcyclist said that the men of police had not been taking it easy with them as they need to compulsorily pay minimum of hundred naira(#100) at each check point per trip.

He said a motorcyclist could only convey two passengers with maximum fare of #300 per passenger, saying out of #600 being realised per trip, a motorcyclist has to offer minimum of #100 each to police at all mentioned four check points along the road.

Thomas said that he and other motorcyclists were just working for the police men operating on the road, adding that out of #600 levelled on the passengers, they only realise #200 per trip, considering wear and tear of the vehicles, drivers' daily consumption, savings and other activities respectively.

He said that he had become tired and fed up of the ugly and illegal phenomenon being perpetrated by the Law Enforcement Agency alleging to uphold and enforce the law.
A B.SC Mechanical Engineer said that he became a commercial motorcyclist sequel to loss of job occasioned by the country's economic meltdown, adding that his curiosity for survival no matter the predicament forced him to venture into cycling business.

He appealed to Inspector General of Police(IGP) and Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Adamu and Shina Olukolu to come to their aid as daily extortion being compelled on them by their men are unbearable.

He enjoined the two ranking officers to call their men to order, claiming the forceful demand of money from the road's users is an illegal act that should be attracted severe punishments.
