One would ponder why Nigeria has refused to progress as a nation in spite of claiming the Africa’s largest economy.

Here are some lists of what is hindering Nigeria’s progress;

1. Insecurity

There is a dramatic increase in killings, terrorism and the likes in the country. This has been one of the major problems facing the growth of Nigeria.

None of the zones in Nigeria are excepted, they are all experiencing the crisis that comes with insecurity in Nigeria. In the North-East, we have the Boko-Haram, a militant Islamic group whose purpose is to institute Islamic law.

They believed western education should be forbidden. They have killed thousands of people. On January 20, 2012 more than 200 people are killed when the group launched coordinated attacks targeting police, military, a prison and other targets in the city of Kano.

Between June 3 to 4, 2014, over 400 people were also killed in the state of Borno leaving so many people displaced from their homes and settlements till date.

Over one million people have been displaced in Maiduguri and this is because the Boko-Haram insurgency forced them to flee their homes.

Similarly, the country has seen another phase of insecurity with the rise of bandits who are concentrated in the North-West states most especially Zamfara State.

Also, the militancy in the South-South are part of the problems Nigeria is facing. They have resolved in Oil bunkering, this activities is promoted by the spate of insecurity in the country.

We can’t underestimate the killings of the Fulani Herds men on the farmers across the country. This has made the agricultural productivity of the country to reduce because large number of farmers couldn’t go for farming because of the killings by the Fulani Herds Men.

2. Corruption

Corruption has been one of the problems the country is facing in the country. It has eaten deep into the root of the system and this has caused various sector of the country to collapse.

The current ruling government is not performing its functions as promised, and officials are too busy enriching their pocket instead of governing effectively. Corruption is a global menace but Nigeria suffers the most of all.

Nigeria is oil producing country, this helps the economy of the country and the huge export number generates income especially the excess crude gains. All the money gained from these sales are not openly accountable to the general public.

Different projects, project like road construction, building of hospitals and others are used in siphoning funds. Some public officials are seen buying million dollar mansions and accumulating stolen funds in financial places. This has hindered the progress of the country.

3. Unemployment

The rate of unemployment of youths in the country is very high. According to a November report by...
