France has said it plans to offer incentives to more immigrants - especially those from Africa - to return home voluntarily.
New Immigration Minister Brice Hortefeux said a family with two children would be paid 6,000 euros (£4,068) to return to their country.

In 2005-2006, a similar scheme was taken up by some 3,000 families.

France is home to about two million immigrants from north and sub-Saharan Africa, according to a 2004 census.

Is this the pattern of the future European Immigration policy - What do you think ??
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by BigB11(m): 3:03pm On May 24, 2007
As long as they are not forcing these immigrants, I truly do not see anything wrong with the policy. Sometimes you have to do whatever is best for your country.

Do you guys remember Ghana must go era?

The only problem I have with French is why Africans? If they can give sensible reason, I absolutely have no problem with the policy.
This policy might also be a positive thing for the Africans. May be it will wake our leaders up and motivate them to work together as one and make Africa a better place to live.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by BigB11(m): 3:36pm On May 24, 2007
Back in the days, folks from Africa never used to run to Europe or United States for shelter, it used to be just for education with the intention to return back home and download knowledge; but today, this is not so and this is killing Africa in general.
Nobody cares, just sell me a VISA and let me get the hell out of this jungle. And this is one of the reasons why leaders are not committed and citizens' expectations are very low.

I think United States and England should follow the same foot steps of France, May be this will wake us up, bring us together and push us to work harder toward making Africa a better place to live; because it is obvious that 98% of our problems are home made.

If we have no other choice, but to stay in Africa, believe me, folks will rise up and make it their business to do what is right.

Let's look at this policy as a positive move for Africa and Africans

Big B1 that idea is barbaric, why the seclusion? are you telling me Africans are the most immigrant in France?  what the hec can 6000 Euro do for a family of 4 in Africa?  if they are doing this to Africans then it must be universal.  America has over 12 Million Illegal aliens but no one is saying all Mexicans must go.  and more over all this Africans in France are taking jobs that you and I won't ever dream of doing.  They are part of the system and are helping their economy in various ways.  How many French in-digens will take up manual labor or clean public restroom?
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by BigB11(m): 4:11pm On May 24, 2007
First, different country, different policy; please don't compare United States to France. It is their country and they have the right to do what is best for the country.

And FYI: We, Nigerians did something similar to folks from Ghana in the past.

Second, Just because you sweep your neighbor's floor everyday to get to watch their TV for 2 hours doesn't mean your neighbor is obligated to the deal. He could ask you not to come back and cancel the deal at anytime for the sake of his family. It is now the duty of your parents and yourself to work harder and get a TV, this way you wouldn't have to depend or look up to your neighbor for the sake of their TV.

Neighbor: France
You: African Immigrant
TV: Better standard of living
Your Parents: African leaders
Your House: Africa

Finally, let's look at this policy as a positive move for Africa and Africans!

It is time for us to work harder and get our own TV.

That argument is baseless and makes no sense, yes we sent GHANA packing in 1980 that was a policy Nigerian government embarked on.  Why do people migrate in the 1st place?  go to Florida and see all the Mexicans working for cheap labor.  They are trying to better their life's and as long as they are not committing any crimes and are law abiding.  They should be helped and not used and discarded like a freaking toilet paper.  Yes people complain of illegal aliens all the time, but how many of this so called policy makers are willing to let their family or children fill in the jobs that this IMIGA people are doing?  if I chose to come to the state to wash toilet to better my self and go to school, KUDOS to me.  Africans are the hardest working people in the world next to Mexicans.  do you know how much was lost last year when there was a wide protest by just the Mexicans? and they all refused to go to work for a day?  go figure.  wasn't France one of the colonial masters?  they took us to their country to help build the country and they sure can't get us out.

@MAMAJAMA:

How long are you willing to sweep your neighbor's floor to watch their TV?

When are you going to finally make the difficult decision to work harder and get your own TV?

Do you want your kids, your grand kids and great grand kids to follow your foot step (sweep neighbor's floor to watch their TV)?

How long do you plan to depend and look-up to your neighbor?

Do you have any plans at-all to look into getting your own TV?

Dude, in my eyes, I think this is a great opportunity and Africans should use it as a motivation to change things in Africa for better.

And please stop comparing Mexicans/ Mexico (country) to Africans/ Africa (continent).
The difference is crystal clear, my friend.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by Nobody: 5:04pm On May 24, 2007
lets assume that immigrants are given this amount (£4000.00) all over Europe and return with their families.

Question ; What happens if they are robbed of this money - does that not mean they are reduced to nothing but animals seeing that they will then have no future and no cash ??

After all the west siphons our wealth in connivance with the elite and nobody talks.

I am saddened very much why my fellow Africans should be treated so despicably because of their skin color ??

Our hope is in God , really.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by Mamajama(m): 5:12pm On May 24, 2007
frosbel Thank you, wont it be more feasible to help stabilize the economy, government and help develop Africa and help fight against corruption so we wont have to travel to Europe and other nations in search of better living. BIGBI tell me if you have a nice house a nice car and a good job, why will you trade all that to go wash restroom in FRANCE? people are migrating because they have no choice, and we want to better ourselves, so please stop that useless analogy of get your own TV BS-prime example USA is spending $500Billion to fight an unjust war in IRAQ, imagine what difference this money will make if given to poor nations in Africa to build schools, roads and health facilities. Do you think we enjoy eating Burger every day here in the state when we can go to mama calabar buka and drink some pelmwine and OGOGORO with pounded yam? 6000 EURO is nothing to get this people to go back.

Look, that is old story.

We can't move forward if we continue to dwell on the past.
If leadership role in Africa is solid, Africans wouldn't be treated like this all over the world. I feel like we've given them the approval to treat us like animals; therefore blame us, not them.

I remember as a kid, travelling to Europe and United States for vacation and feeling very proud to be a Nigerian; during these days, believe it or not, these same oyinbo folks used to kiss our ass, because we had it all. But lack of strong dedicated leaders has messed things up for us.
Now, it's time to deal with it and regroup.

Stop crying folks, let's rise up and make it right again.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by Mamajama(m): 6:34pm On May 24, 2007
Big B1 you must be high on cocaine, what year was that that the OYINBO man kissed and respect a black African BOOTY SCRATCHER AS THEY CALLED US? Do you know what FELA said when he went to school in ENGLAND before you was born? Ignorance. check that song out dude.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by feelgood(m): 6:34pm On May 24, 2007
Big B1, well said. Unfortunately, many of us cannot comprehend the wisdom and truth behind those words.
Let the folks come back home - to the land of the golden sun, where the banana leaves sway to the music of the wind. The white man has been patient and kind. A mother cannot prefer washing the bum of another's child while allowing flies to be trailing after the bum of her kid. A visitor who refuses to take note of the subtle signs telling him that it is night already, is asking to be thrown out unescorted.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by Mamajama(m): 6:41pm On May 24, 2007
if the white man wants us to go back home, tell them to give back all the stolen wealth from Africa, all the looted treasuries, it's now that we are competing with them for jobs that we are a burden. pls
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by fromuk(m): 6:58pm On May 24, 2007
Now we are burden to them but they started migration. If they did not come to africa first i don't think i will be here today, its pay back time. I will advice anybody that can the visa to start coming the world is a free place to dwell in. From Illegal you will become legall one day just remember your people while here.

Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by naijaway(m): 8:16pm On May 24, 2007
well said bigB1, who didn't see it coming was/is not a good planner. Africans and other people of other races staying and going to these places and thinking it will be forever so. Nigeria and most of africa don't really have nothing and yet they are insensitive to tribal infiltration not to talk about race infiltration. The next move will be to disqualify other races in their country who think they are immune with citizenship regardless of how long they have lived there then it will be clear to everyone. Africa will/should survive and with hands together we will make it a better place worst comes to worst we would fight a war of understanding inorder to move forward. Is better to suffer now and set a solid foundation for ur own in our country than later lets say year 2100.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by Mamajama(m): 8:24pm On May 24, 2007
stop talking to my boy BIGB1, what does he know about poverty, his father IBB stole so much from this country. how can he talk of security and light and water when he has never experienced all this things, one day in Nigeria and 2 month in America does not qualify him to speak about Nigeria
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by BigB11(m): 8:29pm On May 24, 2007
This is another problem facing Africans "SPECULATION"

@MAMAJAMA: You're not even close.

Give me a break and let's focus on the topic.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by Mamajama(m): 8:41pm On May 24, 2007

Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by BigB11(m): 8:47pm On May 24, 2007

It will be fair to the rest to refocus back to the topic.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by Colonia(m): 8:47pm On May 24, 2007
Good points BIGB1. i think France is doing a good thing , because they do not have to give anybody a dime. But i see what they are doing it will be actually cheaper for them to give Migrants money other than using this money to fight immigration. I don't think that will stop immigration to France. As soon as somebody Land Africa  with couple of euros and buy a nice car everybody will want to be on France's payroll too.
The bottom line is there is no place like home, no matter how long you spend abroad you will never be accepted by oyinbos PERIOD!
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by Mamajama(m): 8:50pm On May 24, 2007
Colonia who tell you say no place like home? if you have the kind money BIGb1 and his father has, you can make any place a home
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by BigB11(m): 8:56pm On May 24, 2007
Bravo, Major General Colonia.

This is why Africans should accept this policy as a motivation to come together and make things right.
We are one, too smart and too tough not to make it happen at home.

Together, let us bring Africa back and show these Oyinbos that there is life after Europe and Yankee.

This move will also wake leaders up and place them under pressure., because citizens' expectations will double up.
Re: Paris To Pay Immigrants To Return Back To Africa by BigB11(m): 8:59pm On May 24, 2007
Colonia: Please ignore MAMAJAMA; he's allergic to logical thinking.

He usually gets sick when he thinks; so, pardon him for talking rubbish.

Abuja may reciprocate the new British visa policy which requires Nigerians living in the United Kingdom to return to Nigeria to renew their travel documents.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Joy Ogwu, said at her valedictory news conference on Wednesday that Nigeria’s bilateral agreements require it to reciprocate any gesture.

She regretted the new British policy and stressed that the contents of Nigeria’s bilateral relations with other countries must be maintained to protect the interest of Nigerians.

"Most of these things that you see manifest are based on the national calculation of nation states. The national interest of every nation state must be served. If we don’t serve our own national interest of Nigeria, then it is our fault. If the British define their national interest as keeping as many Nigerians out of their territory, we have ways, we have means of dealing with it: reciprocity. That is it. I will stop at that so that I don’t step on too many toes. But you can be sure that in our bilateral relations with any country, we will reciprocate. Reciprocity is certain as solution," she stated in Abuja.

Ogwu recalled that on assumption of office nine months ago, she embarked on comprehensive reforms to "re-position, re-invent, renovate, restructure, re-engineer, renovate, and re-tool" the ministry to articulate and implement foreign policy.

The ministry will celebrate its golden jubilee this year and is already setting a new foreign policy agenda that would refocus it on "new themes, priorities, and challenges, such as poverty alleviation and combating pandemics, peace-keeping and peace-building, energy, organised crime, including human trafficking, fair trade, disarmament and human rights."

About 544 officers have been redeployed from there to the office of the head of service who would decide what to do with them.

But President Olusegun Obasanjo has given Ogwu the approval to engage 80 officers whose degree qualification rank first class or second class upper.

The ministry, according to her, is now better placed to promote closer economic and political ties with other countries, in order to achieve Nigeria’s foreign policy goals of rapid economic growth.

She lamented the low funding for the ministry, but stressed that a stakeholders’ forum that would help reshape foreign policy has been instituted.

Also at the briefing, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Hakeem Baba Ahmed, said the ministry has investigated the case of the Defence Attache to the Nigerian High Commission in India, Captain G.A. Ojedokun, who was caught with over $2 million (N260 million) at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.

Ahmed, who recounted that he has been on the matter since the news broke, said there is no evidence from either India or Nigeria that Ojedokun was involved in crime.

His words: "Since that time, detailed explanation has been given about the source of the money, the officer has been released and the Nigerian and Indian authorities have been co-operating ….

"There was a need for some explanation to be given to the Indian authorities and it has been given to them. The officer is no more under detention."

How true is this gist ??
