According to report, Sterling wants assurances that Guardiola will stay beyond the 18 months he has left on his current deal before signing a new contract.
Although the proposed contract would see the winger earn an extra £150,000-a-week, his bond with the Spaniard is equally as important.
After a difficult first season, the former Barcelona boss sought out Sterling to help aid his development.
In fact, when Alexis Sanchez was considering joining City, Guardiola refused to sanction a deal which could have seen Sterling move to the Emirates.
In the Catalan’s first season he managed just ten goals but bagged 23 in the 2017-18 campaign, 25 last season and 14 so far in this one.
But City will be concerned after his comments in the summer about potentially moving overseas later in his career.
