Picture this for a minute, you have the next hit song in your head and you just can't wait to show the world what you're made of. They're not ready. They wont know what hit them!!!

But just before you hit the studio, here are key things you need to do and look out for. The studio is where it all begins, if things are messed up there, there's not much the world's best mixing and mastering engineer can do.

Without further ado, here they are;

1. Write and Rehearse your song at least 10 times - Often times, we over-rely on our creative muse and assume once you hear the beats, everything would align. No be so o. Write something down or better still, record snippets with your phone. There's the part where you display your creativity and freestyle but having a foundation to work with is as important. Nothing is more frustrating to a producer or an engineer than an artist who isn't well prepared. Let's also not forget the extra hours and money you will spend because you're just not ready

2. Listen to previous projects - Don't get carried away by the aesthetics of the studio, its cooling units and fantastic furniture. Focus on the sound output. Studios have their specialties regardless of what they may tell you, so confirm the producer in charge has produced songs that you either admire or like.

3. Compatibility Issues - If you have any recording done at your home studio that you intend to use, make sure to confirm it is compatible with the studio. Some studios may not have the same plugins you use.

4. Think about signing a legal document - While this may not be common in these parts, it is important to sign legal documents. A legal document stating the scope of work as well as the royalty assigned (if any) to all the participants is important. This is referred to as a Split Sheet. It guarantees everyone gets compensated fairly for their work from the income generated from the music.

Keep these in mind and you would be better prepared to drop that fire track we won't get tired of.
