I'm just thinking...what of cars with Android Navigation system? They should yank the thing off right?

I don't know if FRSC has done adequate research or even consult with Google before coming up with this position.

Foremost, FRSC appears to be ignorant of the fact that every Google map users signed a term and condition for its use. I cannot think of any point FRSC may want to raise that are not clearly contained in the gmap terms and conditions.

The use of phones generally while driving is bad. Gmap should not have been specifically highlighted. There are other apps and systems in use for similar purpose.

Having said that, FRSC also failed to realise that Gmap is just an Aid to Navigation. And as an aid, extreme caution is required by the user. This is also explicitly stated in Gmap terms and conditions which the user signed to.

FRSC should bear in mind that traffic management is not limited to road patrolling and petty administrative works and bogus or general statements like this. Personally, I would expect them to work in tandem with all the SatNAV providers with aim to finding a better solution.

Car manufacturers appears to be taking all these feedbacks and complains into consideration in that some modern cars come with this "Aid to Navigation", even so...it is still at the users discretion and extreme caution is required.

FRSC can push the case of speed limiter to car manufacturers, customs, car dealers et al such that every car bound for Nigeria comes with an already installed/factory fitted speed limiter. If this is not done, it will appear the agency has gone to China to procure "Speed Limiters" to market to Nigerians. We've seen the case of "retro-reflective tapes" and how it ended!

FRSC should start by ensuring that adequate road signage, maps, street name plates, directional signs etc are all in place. They should partner with appropriate agencies to ensure that road and traffic management is seemless. Thence, they can easily come strong on their position regarding the use of Gmap and Speed limiter.

fergie1989:
The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ayuba Gora, says driving with the aid of Google Map using mobile phones is a serious traffic offence.

NAN reports that Mr. Gora said this at the inauguration of the 2019 Ember Months Campaign by Lugbe Unit Command of the FRSC in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the law forbids motorists from using mobile phones in any form while driving, as it can lead to an accident.

He also informed motorists that the corps will soon begin enforcement of installation of speed limiting devices.

Mr Gora advised motorists, especially commercial vehicle operators, who have yet to install the device to do so.

“We will embark on massive checks of vehicles without this device soon and arrest those that disconnected the devices from their vehicles.

“It is very important that all vehicles should have the device installed in their vehicles.

“The required speed limit for commercial vehicles even on the highways should not exceed 90 km/hr for buses and taxis.

“By doing this today, we are simply reminding motorists that they must drive with care and observe traffic rules and regulations in order to make the job very easy for all of us.

“If you are arrested this period, you will not just pay fines but must be taken for emotional evaluation test in the hospital to ascertain your mental fitness before we let go,” he said.

He urged the public to dial 122 or 112 in case they noticed unusual behaviour by road users and in the event of an accident.

Mr Gora debunked speculations that the speed limit device damages car engine, saying it had nothing to do with the engine, but only cut fuel supply during attempted speeding.

“Once the vehicle reaches a predetermined top speed, the computer steps in and restricts the flow of air and fuel to the engine and even the sparks that cause combustion.

“Either way, the vehicle will be unable to exceed the top speed as determined by the car’s manufacturer.

“The problem we have with the operators of these vehicles is that, when a speed limiting device has been installed, they tamper with it. In the process of tampering by disconnecting, it leads to a problem,” he added.

Am still waiting for the day the frsc will start punishing people that drive around with ear phones plugged in their ears. That shit is so rampant this days.

FRSC on twitter clarified their position on this and have come out say they are not against the use of Google map as a driving aid, but drivers must ensure that the application is turned on before embarking on the journey.

I used a Magellan road mate map on my Jeep. Its carefully mounted above the dashboard in line with the the steering wheel.
You should always power on and set up your destination before moving with the car.The voice assistance should also be on.

Charleys:
How can you force people to use a speed limit device, is it in any law?

Who is sponsoring the use of that speed limit device?

Who is going to gain more by the installation of that speed limit device.?

Who imported the speed limit device and planned with the government to enforce it on people.?
Whether You Like It Or Not Speed limit Is The Best Way To Go. Our Drivers Are Careless. They Didnt Even Consider The Fact That They Carry Precious Lives. It Is Good To Be Late Than Be Late. About The Importer Of The Device, It Is Not Important Than The Lives Wasted. Who Is The Owner Of Remita? Who Imports Electric Metres? Who Imports Generators? Yet They Extort From Us. With SLDs, Road Accident Will Reduce And The Fatality Will Also Reduce.

What if we told you that The Alphabet Company created the Maps to alter Google's search algorithm so that when people looked up some Direction,' information about location—and not about Disney being cryogenically frozen—would come up?

Screen Rant notes that cigarettes used to be cropped out of Walt Disney's hands in an attempt to keep up with their family-friendly branding, so while creating a hit movie to mess with an internet algorithm sounds nutty, it kind of also makes sense.

And if it was intentional, the team over at The Alphabet and Walt Disney Company are geniuses.
