Falcons Vs Rivers Angels Unplayed Friendly:
Law firm set to charge Ruth David to court if......

By Dagunduro Monsuru

An Abuja based law firm, Legion of Legal Consults, has served former Head, Women Football, Nigeria Football Federation, Ms Ruth David a pre-action notice and gave her 7-day ultimatum to respond to issue raised in the letter or be charged to court.

According to an online law report, the legal firm served the pre-action notice to give Ruth David the opportunity to explain whether the allegation in a report by an online sports newspaper, was right or wrong.

The online Sports newspaper had last Friday alleged that the sum of $90,426 (Ninety thousand, four hundred and twenty six dollars) was released to Ms Ruth David for a friendly match between Nigeria's Super Falcons and Rivers Angels in 2015.

According to the report, the warm up match meant to prepare the women national team for 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada was not held.

Ayodele Temitope Justice a principal partner at Legion of Legal Consults, who spoke with an online law report said that the law firm took solace in the freedom of information act that mandated every government parastatal to be accountable to the citizens who wish to know and ask question.

"It came to our notice and knowledge through an online sports newspaper, BSN Sports, which report that certain time, precisely 2015, that certain amount of money $90,246 was allegedly released for preparation of the Nigeria senior Football Women National Team for a friend match against Rivers Angels ahead of the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada." Justice Ayodele told reporters in Abuja.

Speaking further, he said: "The allegation in the report shows that the match was not held, and that the money was not returned back to the federal government treasury."

"So, as a lawyer and as tax payer, we deem it necessary to write a letter to the officer involved who is Ms Ruth David, former Head, Women Football, NFF. He continued.

"We took solace in the Freedom of Information, FOI, act that mandated every organization or government parastatal owe the citizen duty of accountability.

"In this light, we wrote a letter the officer asking her to explain whether the money was truly released as alleged? How much was released? Who collected the money? Was the match held? If yes, what was the scoreline? Where was it held? Were the players involved in the match paid their allowances? These are some of the content in the letter which we referred to as pre-action notice.

Justice Ayodele threatens to charge the NFF official to court if she fails to respond before or on the 7th day after serving her the pre-action notice.

"And failure to explain what is contrary to that sports online report convincingly, we will have no option than to proceed to court as tax payer.

"If the allegation is true, then our common wealth is being misuse and as Nigerian we have that right to ask questions and the tax that we pay to federal government of Nigeria as seen to the issue of locus standi . He concluded
