Solidaridad Celebrates Its 50years Anniversary

Solidaridad in Nigeria yesterday celebrated it 50 years of impacts transforming lives in different communities and countries around the world.

Speaking during the occasion yesterday in Abuja, the Senior Climate Specialist – Africa, Dr. Sam Ogallah said that Nigeria office, cannot be left out of celebrating an organization which has transformed millions of smallholders across the globe in the last 50 years " we are delighted to join the rest of the world to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the Solidaridad "

According to the information available to Leadership newspaper, Solidaridad is an international civil society organization founded in 1969 with the network of 8 regional expertise centres, strategically located around the world, collaborates with local partners to maximize their impact to create prosperity throughout agricultural, mining and textile supply chains.

"We envision a world in which everything we produce and consume can sustain us while respecting the planet, each other, and future generations. We bring together supply chain actors and engage them in innovative, practical, effective and scalable solutions to improve production and ensuring the transition to a sustainable and inclusive economy that maximizes the benefits for all".

Ogallah said that Solidaridad focus on the production/value chains where its interventions have the greatest impact: coffee, tea, cocoa, fruits and vegetables, textiles, cotton, soy, maize, palm oil, sugar cane, gold, dairy, aquaculture and livestock. "We support smallholders and enterprising farmers in developing countries and encourage effective land use and increased production sustainably and with respect to people and the environment. "

Adding that the premise for the structure is to promotes capacity building: strengthening Solidaridad teams in the region, enabling them to take control of supervisory tasks and to manage programming themselves. The regional Solidaridad teams cooperate with their own partners on the planning, implementation, communication and evaluation of programmes, and on reporting their results.

He however said that Solidaridad is resolved to promote wealth creation through agro-value chain as a way of diversifying the economy from over dependency on oil and gas and called on all to take advantage of the opportunities presented by Solidaridad to better their lots and contribute to economic development.
