qualityovenbake: He was NOT a great man. He allegedly looted the CBN vaults in Asaba during the civil war and led the July 1966 counter coup during which many southern army officers were killed in cold blood. He was also ready to secede from Nigeria with his fellow northerners until British spies advised him of the foolishness of such a move. He was NOT a great man. Do not rewrite our history. AreaFada2: His intention was NOT good. It was all about northernisation through quota system and federal character thereby killing the morale of federal civil servants, which spread to other sectors of the economy. That is what many of the leaders from that part of the country are about while fooling southerners with their fake piety and poverty. Government properties now worth N35m were sold to citizens in Lagos for N2500 apiece. But that was in 1982, six years and 2 presidents later! So if in 1982, N7000 had an equivalent value of almost N100m today, it would have been worth so much more in 1976. itsme01: 2 Likes |

I have answered the worth of N7,000 in the modern day, an amount that Murtala left behind in his account. Any other deviation you make is your own wahala, you are strictly on your own. Meanwhile, we await the passage of fake speech, fake news and fake claim bill. anonimi: |

DeOTR: oga google the exchange rate then, and google the inflation rate the fact that we have peagut plant working in kaduna then and people dont have to pay as high as $1000 to ship cars give that illusion that its more valueble..since we stopped producing many thing in the 90s from cloth to cars to iron and metal then we started paying higher due to import duty and shipping cost .. to an american $5000 USD adjusted with inflation isnt more than 10,000usd now |

Mohammed's son should tell that to the marines. What about the money he stole and hid under Moshood Abiola? Or about the Benin CBN vault he and cohorts looted during the civil war. His son has forgotten that many Nigerians are students of social history and not fools. 1 Like |

7000 in 1976 is worth 221 million today (I did the calculation using current inflation which is lower than historical values) he only ruled for a year and managed to steal that much money. Let's not forget that he genocides igbos. He was more corrupt than the leaders of today. |

augustine: Tell them Do you know the military then don’t put money in banks? All those sector commanders who became rich during the war from looting built 4 flats easily for pretty women they just had flings with. I know of a woman who is now old who got 2 mansions from a common Lieutenant who was a payroll officer in the Umiahia sector. This lady told a relative of mine that those days this lieutenant brought money in for safe keeping in cartoons to her house.... and doesn’t count the money when giving out to this lady friend ... it was always in bundles of pounds....he will just cut a bunch of it and give out. This relative told me it was because of this lieutenant that she knew the smell of newly minted currency which is in bundles tucked in plastic wraps how much more Murtala that was a Lieutenant Colonel and war commander.... I beg make una leave matter.... 7,000 naira indeed Maybe Murtala Son wants Buhari to help him, in July 1975 when Murtala took over from Gowon, Buhari was appointed Military Governor of North Eastern State. . Now Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi and Gombe States. This same Murtala that was described as “very corrupt” by the US ? Hmmmmm So Over to you Mr. Integrity! |
