The Humanity in Us

Some months ago, a young man uploaded pictures of his handiwork online. He is quite a promising shoemaker.

I decided to buy one pair of shoes that costs N20,000. But then, I remembered I have less privileged children in my village walking to school bare footed.

So, instead of buying this N20, 000 cute shoe I admired so much, I added more money to that amount and contracted the young man to make pairs of leather school sandals for these children.

I didn't do this because I have so much. After all, I am yet to start earning 6 digits salary. But for the fact that I have benefited from people's goodness, which I believe almost everyone of us has too, in one way or the other.

Now, I am making this go public not because I want to show off, but to encourage young people like me to also take up roles in making our world a better place, in whatever small measures they could.

The foot wears were presented/distributed to them today. And although I wasn't present at the presentation, I felt very much overjoyed from the far away Lagos where I live, knowing that I have just succeeded in putting smiles on the faces of pupils of Joint Primary School, Awgu, Enugu State.
