The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has criticised the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, for celebrating his daughter’s wedding in Mauritius, saying the governor wasted the resources of the state on the event.

The governor, his family members and some of his aides were in Mauritius on Saturday for the wedding after the traditional part of the wedding had been celebrated in Owo, Ondo State in September.

The PDP, in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Zadok Akintoye, alleged that the governor was being insensitive to the plight of the people of the state by allegedly using state fund for her daughter’s ceremony abroad.


Akintoye said, “It is on record that this APC-led government remains the most anti-people government in the history of Ondo State and one that has glorified capitalism, nepotism, tribalism and wanton disregard for the welfare of the people.

“Within the last two years, the governor has celebrated weddings of his children across the world from Canada to the United States and now Mauritius at the expense of citizens of this state without any sense of respect to the people he leads. How else can one explain the present display of affluence and disdain for the people?”

However, in its reaction, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Alex Kalejaiye, said the opposition party was only seeking relevance by criticising the governor on the event.

Kalejaiye said, “The APC in Ondo State has viewed as puerile, myopic, and avoidable, the incoherent argument of the PDP that the recent wedding of a daughter of Mr Governor in Mauritius was an act of ‘insensitivity.’

PDP has finally found its voice as a viable opposition in Ondo. We need to hear more from the opposition instead of government propaganda that we get inundated with daily from the APC government in the state. APC start packing your load, PDP is coming.

They said Governor Akeredolu reportedly took money from the state purse to celebrate his daughter's wedding but what they are ignorant of is that, the husband of the Governor’s daughter, Olatunde is a successful dude and a business partner of Peter Psquare from a very long time coming. Long Arakunrin Akeredolu became Governor. Even Peter of Psquare was his Bestman on this wedding day in Mauritius.

For a man who happens to be a business partner & close pal to some of the top Artistes in Nigeria, what is Mauritius, a country in the East Africa that he cannot go to celebrate his wedding.

How many normal families have weddings in Barbados, London etc without a word said?

On Governor Akeredolu's part, this is a successful legal luminary who Co-founded a law firm. A former President of the NBA. A former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

And people now think someone of this calibre cannot afford to celebrate his daughter's wedding at Mauritius? A country half the population of Ondo State.

Besides, a destination wedding for 150 guests is always wayyyyy cheaper than a Nigerian wedding where you have to plan for 3000 people because if the Governor doesn't invite at least 100 people from each ward, they will fight him

Nigerians, start checking yourselves abeg. You may be broken, unreasonable, unfair, negative, frustrated and abnormal yet not know it.

All these poverty mentality must end in 2019.

Ondo PDP finally found something to say after all this while. Don't blame them not when the party’s strength has been decimated and deflated in Ondo State through the outstanding performance of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in the last two years and a half years in Ondo State.

How can you accuse a government that has improved on healthcare delivery; employed hundreds of workers; pays salaries and pensions; constructed and rehabilitated roads and schools across the three senatorial districts as an anti-people?
