Researchers Considers Non-formal Education For Building Resilient Societies by uniprojectM: 11:09am On Dec 05, 2019
Exclusion from formal education makes one vulnerable to intellectual and rational ridicule; exclusion from the benefits of education is even worse. In other words, not being able to access formal education is quite understandable but the point of not still gaining from people who got the experience causes even more damage, research has confirmed. However, this notion has been neglected for so long and government, being a rare sponsor of such programmes (when it even holds), holds not much information about non-formal education and where it practically comes in to games.

Why is this gist very critical at this point.

Terrorism, war and violent zealotry are fueled by poor and uncensored kind of education particularly from a wrong offshoot; the violent zeal targets development focal points, education inclusive, bringing the society to a state of poverty and vulnerability to their own politics. When terrorism attacks happen, people are displaced from their homes, activities for livelihood, comfort, investments, acquaintances, familiar culture and lifestyles, language, food and basic education sometime to places they may consider bizarre and out of place for them.

These centers of attack are meanwhile pioneered chiefly by people who have been victimized by violent extremists resulting to such circumstances as poverty, hunger and subsequent vulnerability. The brainwashing into terrorism penetrates their naïve minds easily with mouth-watering promises keeping the blind-spot to themselves.

However, research has shown that promoting respect for diversity, peace and economic advancement, education can be a barrier against radicalization.

How is this going to work out? I ‘did love to share an idea

Immigrants majorly fall into the context of this discussion; they are left with fewer choices and are so easily lured in to fighting for whatever loss they have incurred. So they need trained teachers, counselors, and psychologists around them; many of which understands and communicates effectively. This measure can foster more tolerant attitudes among people who have violent tendencies.

But researchers have also discovered that 1 out of every 5 teachers anticipate and plan to solve inter cultural difference, language associated issues and psychological preferences; it doesn’t speak well at all. In 2013 precisely, teaching and learning international survey revealed that just 16% of
secondary education teachers in 34 education systems had taken intercultural education as well as multi-lingual education seriously, report says. However, this data has reportedly been blamed on lack of teaching materials as well as trained teachers.

So researchers they have finally resolved the fact that non-formal education is key to building a more resilient society instead of relying so much on formal education which tends to favour the rich and powerful.

What does this mean to the man on the streets?

Young boys who find their way to the closest football pitch everyday may not have a school to go to but they have the tactics to play; a football academy for the young will do a lot of good. What am I saying? grassroot skill sponsorship is a catch-them-young way of building a society no matter where they come from as long as they possess skill that will benefit the society.

Activities such as sports, dance, drama, arts, cultural festivals, carnivals etc. have a way of binding a society together irrespective of their cultural and religious difference. “It goes a long way to promote respect for diversity, peace, economic advancement and the fight against radicalization”.
