Buhari, who assumed office on May 29, 2015, failed to host the National Honours in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, and there are no signs that will held this year.

National honours are awards given to honour some memebers of society who, in the course of doing their work, have made exceptional contribution to the development of a nation. It is usually a way to urge them to greater service and to encourage others to follow their example.

In Nigeria, the National Honours award is one of four different sets of awards given to Nigerian citizens who have distinguished themselves in various fields of life.

The National Honours award was established via the National Honors Act No. 5 of 1964, during the First Republic by the Nigerian government to honour Nigerians who have rendered special and outstanding services in their various professions to the benefit and progress 'of the nation. Citizens who are awarded these honours become recognised as special citizens.

The last time the conferment of the yearly awards took place was on September 29, 2014 when former President Goodluck Jonathan conferred different categories of national honours on 313 persons, bringing the total number of beneficiaries as of that time to 4,737.

Although in June 12, 2018, Buhari conferred the highest national honour of the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Chief Moshood Abiola, and also conferred the second highest national honour, the GCON, on Abiola’s running mate in the election, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe. He also honoured the late human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, with the same award.

Besides these, Buhari has failed to continue the yearly tradition of conferment of national honours.

The List Of Awards include;

The Nigerian National Honours, in
descending order of importance, are:

Grand Commander of the Order of the
Federal Republic (GCFR)

Grand Commander of the Order of the
Niger (GCON)

Commander of the Order of the

Buhari! I am happy that you never changed. Buhari has seen that all Nigerians are thieves and of no moral and value whatsoever and that none deserves National Honour that is why he has refused to give National Honour to any Nigerian. Very very few Nigerians deserve it like the Airport Cleaner that have been seeing lost/forgotten money everywhere and taking the money to her management to find the owners despite the fact that she is very poor.
