Kudos to them, good marketing for the hospital. I hope it becomes as routine as it is in the UK, patients just walk in and have this treatment and go home same day(done on out patient basis). And i do hope they'll be patronised by Nigerian governments instead of sending the kids to India accompanied by 15 govt officials who'll collect $10k allowance each. All these after a press briefing of how the ''good governor'' used his humanity to help the poor child. . . . Good feat on Nigerian soil, now just a little more encouragement from the government and our health system will take a leap. |

The headline is wrong by the way. Caordiac catheterization is definitely a form of surgery. Its not as serious as cutting open the baby's chest cavity, but its still a very invasive proceedure. You have to pass a tube through the femoral vein (in the thigh), all the way into the right atrium in the baby's heart. Nowadays I thing they use an umbrella-like device that opens up to block the hole which means the child will be carrying around a foreign body in her chest for the rest of her life. Its ridiculous to say the hole was closed "without surgery" |

Whether it is done via surgery or forgery is no concern of anyone, provided the operation was successful. Believe it, Goodluck has come to stay in Nigeria. |

Kudos! What we lack is government's support, not ideas, skills or man-power. You are very correct. If we can have a reasonable government that is transparent, have vision and positive, we will sure go places. |

Whether it was surgery or not, according to the poster, it was the first in Naija or even West Africa so, thank God for Naija, thank God for the doctors, thank God for Victoria and her family. |

coded777: I'm not trying to diminish their achievement. Obviously, this is a big deal and the people involved should be proud. All I'm saying is that we should try and be accurate and use the proper english to decribe things. Saying the hole was closed without surgery implies that maybe Pastor Chris or Guru Maraji closed it supernaturally or something. Cardiac catheterization is a type of surgery. And wtf does GEJ have to do with this? Do we have to bring politics into everything? Sorry about the typos and the previous double post btw. I'm typing this on my phone. |

Whenever I come to Nairaland, this is the sort of good news I want to be reading about my great country and not the nonsense the unpatriotic elements write about. I wonder what all those anti-Nigeria idiots will say now, |

I don't see any evil in d post by "Evil mind". The clarification was necessary to enlighten those of us that's got lil or nothin to do wit the medical field. How do u appreciate the feat when u're defeated by ignorance of what the process was really bout? Idk if he's a doc anyway. I personally appreciate. Thanks dude. |

Evil Brain: Thank you for educating Nigerians my person. While it is appreciated to have been done in Nigeria and we are happy for the modest progress, such clarifications are necessary since we have a bunch of illiterate(and unwilling to learn)journalists nowadays.Unfortunatley, they are now spreading their ignorance and resistance to research. They need to learn to use google a little before going to press. Congrats Nija, i hope one day the country will be like India, making a lot of forex from medical fields alone. |
