Don't kill NIPOST. They still have their use. It will come back to haunt us. Asides FIRS dragging NIPOST for stamp duty, NIPOST can still generate funds other ways. E.g NIPOST can charge people a small monthly fee of N300 to N500 to have mailboxes in their house.
There's a reason people still receive letters, mails and parcels in their homes in advanced countries. It's because they still have an effective mailing system.

The reason why NIPOST not effective and presence not felt is the same reason many government agencies are not effective. They are all waiting for FG monthly allocation.

It's not a joking matter at all. Imagine the level of over taxation Buhari government is pushing for, so they can continue living like royal thieves. And Tinubu is not President yet, by the time Tinubu is president, we might get taxed for breathing air, because baba Tinubu is a taxation specialist. Was it not just few days ago on Nairaland that the stock exchange was reported to have lost billions. They will use tax to kill everything in this country. No nation can grow from underdeveloped to developed by over taxation. It is technology and industrialization that turns nations into wealthy countries, not taxation.

They must mention Tinubu! Nah him be their President! Awon Oooode!

FIRS has turned to Federal Inland Revenue Scammers. They want to scam NIPOST. Security and Economy, I rate Buhari government 5%. Anti-corruption 35%, infrastructure and social development, 50%. Overall, cumulative score for Buhari government 25%, CGPA 1.38 out of 5.0, which is definitely equal to 1 semester probation and 2nd Semester "Asked To Withdraw". By 2023, Buhari APC, Nigerians will ask you to withdraw from power. Go and write Jamb again, olodo government grin

Infrastructure and social development 50%? I see you are not okay

The Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning. Zainab Ahmed, has said that the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) would be in charge of sales and collection of stamp duties. This is coming despite the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) and NIPOST workers got the assuarance of the senate that they would carry out the mandate.

The Minister while addressing the press in Abuja said “by the passage of the Finance Bill it will be the Federal Inland Revenue Service that will be collecting the Stamp Duties.” S “It is a revenue for the government, it is a form of tax for every financial transaction that goes on.
Instead of Reading Naija News i prefer listening to Good Naija Songs Biko ooooo

For example, you send a transfer, you see the bank charges you N50, FIRS is going to be the collection agency,” she added. However, SSASCGOC had in a letter signed by the president of the union, comrade Mohammed Yunusa and the general secretary comrade Ayo Olorunfemi, which was copied to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Senate president Ahmed Lawan and the Speaker House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila and made available to Daily Trust stated that “The provisions of Stamp Duties Act Cap S8 Laws of the Federation 2004 and the NIPOST Act Cap N127 LFN 2004, has given the sole power to collect stamp duties to NIPOST.” Comrade Ayo stressed that it is the ‘core mandate’ of NIPOST to collect stamp duty after which five percent of what was collected is used for the development of NIPOST infrastructures Nationwide.

He further noted that “it is no longer an attempt, but is now clear that the Federal Ministry of Finance in collaboration with Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) are ready to take over the responsibility of Nigeria Postal Service by influencing the House of Representatives to insert that they should be responsible for the collection of stamp duty. He lamented that “Once this is done, NIPOST is finished and the staff is gone, there is no source of revenue and therefore, the financial inclusion programme of this government will go into extinction. Because it is only NIPOST that has a federal presence in all the villages across Nigeria.”

Daily Trust gathered that the problem started when in line with the digital economy of the federal government, NIPOST sponsored a bill to migrate from manual to digital on the collection of stamp duty. He said from the analysis, about N500 billion would be collected from the first year with an electronic collection of stamp duty, adding that subsequent years the amount would run into trillions.

“Now that the federal government announced the establishment of Ministry of Communication and Digital economy you don’t expect NIPOST to continue to be analog. So we sponsored a bill to give us the power to do electronic stamp so that we can use the electronic stamp to denote our receipt and other business transaction.

“And all of a sudden because we put the financial implications, the huge revenue derivable from the project, the Federal Inland Revenue Service connived with the minister of Finance to corner the process. “Ours is a business, we produce stamp and sale. The inland services don’t produce, what we produce is a stamp and if it changes from manual to digital, that shouldn’t be their business.” He said.

Unfortunately we have a minister of comm and digital economy who is an illiterate in that field. He should be the one championing the stamp duty collection by nipost and get due credit for revamping that subsector. Instead he's ordering telcos to reduce data charges as if he's the one providing money for them to run their businesses. Smh

lol, you see DHL and co, they are waxing strong irrespective of the time and technology, NIPOST should have upgraded to this standard, offering swift and premium service without compromising the low cost.
NIPOST is a disgrace, I swear. Most of their post offices look pathetic. Half of them look like abandoned projects. No one can tell the last time a layer of paint was spread on the walls of those post offices.

The others look like rowdy markets, with documents and packages littering the entry points.(e.g. Ikeja post office).

Let them go to Kenya and see how efficient their post offices are. In that country, you cannot have a registered corporate office without having a post office box number. It doesn't matter how big or influential you are, you must have a P.O.Box No. And if any unlawful item enters your box, na jail straight be dat.

In Namibia, the post office is where you get the cheapest freight rates and most efficient courier services, unlike Nigeria.

In this country, it is cheaper and faster to send your documents and packages, through luxurious bus services and road haulage firms than through NIPOST.

Our dear NIPOST will charge you excessive rates and still tell you fake stories, on why your documents did not arrive in time....
