The fight between two boxing heavy-weights Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz has come and gone. It is a match that would be talked about in the months, even years to come.

It was a match that held so much significance for Joshua who had never conceded a fight until he was beaten by Ruiz.

One can imagine that the thought of what would become of his career if he had lost again to Ruiz, was what propelled his victory last weekend.

Well, while the whole world continues to celebrate the Nigerian-British fighter, here are a few life lessons we thought his tenacity teaches all those aspiring for successes in life.

1. Planning is everything: if you had seen some of the commentaries after the match, you would have seen that the recurring observation was that Joshua planned till the very end. He did not only imagine the victory that awaits him at the end but planned every step of the way. Some say he even planned all the punches and the strategy to wear Ruiz out. Of course, it worked.

This teaches us that no matter how competent you might be in what you do, planning is key. In most cases, to come out with a decisive victory, you need to have a minute by a minute plan. Very few things come by chance or out of sheer luck. There is nothing like “I just did it” in achieving great successes.

2. Failure is a better source of inspiration: In life, some are motivated by rejection and failure, some others by successes. You should be motivated by both. But what we have learnt from Joshua is that failure or the risk of it provides even a stronger source of inspiration.

Just like Joshua, the fear of losing, failing at something and enduring the embarrassment should motivate one to act. Just imagine for a second what it would have meant for Joshua’s career, had he lost the fight.

In this life, we are all at a battle with life itself. Most winners are those who fear to lose or had lost before and are determined to not ever let it happen again.

3. You must drop some baggage: You see, Joshua was reported to have lost at least 10 pounds before the rematch with Ruiz. He wanted to stay lean so he could move faster.

I thought AJ's lose was fixed by the cartel.
