- Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state has condemned the DSS rearrest of Omoyele Sowore

- The Ondo state governor urged the bar to condemn the DSS for desecrating the nation’s courtroom

- The governor urged legal practitioners to shrug off timidity and live up to their training

Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has tasked legal practitioners to rise to the challenge of protecting the judiciary from interference.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the governor made this call at the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ibadan branch, held at Aare Afe Babalola Bar Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Monday, December 9.

Making specific reference to the rearrest of Omoyele Sowore by the Department of State Services (DSS), Akeredolu, who chaired the occasion, urged the bar to condemn the DSS for desecrating the nation’s courtroom.

He warned that judges were at risk of being arrested in wig and gown during court session if the bar continued to adopt a passive and inactive posture to addressing issues.

He, therefore, urged legal practitioners to shrug off timidity and live up to their training which demands courage in prosecution.

His words: “We must be terror against demagogues. It is when your voice of the bar is heard consistently that it will earn respect.

“Will people go and desecrate our courtrooms and we keep quiet? The bar must condemn it. There is no explanation anybody can give you.

“Somebody calls it drama. Drama! How? What we saw was not drama, you must stand up to condemn the SSS for what they did in Abuja.

“Our spirit must remain indomitable. Forget about where we are today because enough of us made efforts to say what you have done is wrong and only way out was apology almost immediately but what people believe is different. You must write to justify what is not justifiable.

“If we are not careful, the day will come that people will walk into a judge’s sitting and arrest people with their wig and gown.

“I am not saying our judges are timid but in the face of the gun, most of our judges will shake.”

Meanwhile, a coalition of civil society organisations has given President Muhammadu Buhari 14 days ultimatum to release Sowore and all prisoners of conscience in the country.

The groups include Center for Democracy and Development (CDD), Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), Enough Is Enough (EIE), Concerned Nigerians, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) among others.

They condemned the attacks on the judiciary and free speech which they said was aimed at silencing Nigerians.

Akeredolu is a maad man.

Sowore deserve to be in prison or shot dead to avoid innocent people dying for nothing. That was how Adolf Hitler started his little revolution with his Nazi party, but the govt of his day simply threw him into prison, he came out and became a democracy hero, contested and worn the election only to become a tyrant that resulted in the death of over 40 million including the massacre of 6 million Jews; if only he was shot dead the day he started his revolution that sad history would have been avoided.

That was also how mad nnamdi KANU started his ipob - hundreds of Igbo youths have died in the process including jack his beloved dog, but ran away to abroad after causing so many trouble.

The FG did the right thing by nipping sowore in the bud before we have another mad man causing trouble. He should be detained indefinitely or better still shot dead.

Akeredolu is supposed to be more vocal than this in relation to sowere who hails from his state.

Governor Akeredolu is the only Governor that spoke against the Hate Speech Bill. He's also the only Governor that spoke against Sowore's arrest in court premises despite being a member of the ruling party. Even some PDP governors don't have the temerity to say pim.

I remember the days of Governor Akeredolu as the NBA president, He was fearless, fair and an apostle of the truth. I am glad that he's still a man of the people. Besides, Ondo state People are known for their integrity and always speaking the truth. Kudos!

Unfortunately the present NBA president has skeleton in his cupboards. He can't talk because of his corruption's cases in court. Thank God I voted for Professor Ojukwu.

Secondly, NBA is divided, many northern bar men see any opposition to the executive lawlessness as a fight against their region and religion.

It was in the presence of the former NBA president A. B. Mahmoud that PMB made his infamous statement that national security is superior to the rule of law. He applauded him.

Ever since the CJN was changed, things have become worse, and the new CJN doesn't care. He is already the president's side pocket.

The best solution now is to endure, remain docile, obsequious and casual, when the next election comes, then people ( Nigerians) would know the right thing to do.


Our only problem now is the northerners and some westerners, they don't care if their choice has vision or not, all they know is that they most maintain and make sure they retain the power in the north. Even if it is an slowpoke that is aspiring for a post to being the president, they don't care.


There is one thing I know for sure, people would start saying "APC and Buhari is annoying and their tyrannical system of ruling is extreme" , but believe me a week to the election, people will still make that mistake.
