Registered Political Parties Commend Governor Ugwuanyi for fixing a Date for Local Government Election

A society cannot be truly democratic until its citizens have the opportunity to choose their representatives through elections that are free and fair. Critical development efforts cannot succeeds without a legitimate and democratically accountable government that is responsive and accountable to its citizens. It provide an important opportunity to advance democratization and encourage political liberalization.

It was in this line of thinking that the Enugu state government have lived up to its responsibilities in conducting local government elections in the state since the inception of governor Ugwuanyi administration. As a true democrat and a man of his word, He have not failed in making sure the people are giving the opportunity to elect their leaders. Understanding the importance of upholding the wishes of the people, governor Ugwuanyi have given power back to the original owner which is the people of Enugu state, irrespective of class, Enugu state is truly in the hand of God as the state never witnessed such freedom and inclusive government like this administration.

It was this understanding of the government's sincerity that Registered political parties in Enugu state rose in unism to give their support for local government election scheduled to take place by February 29th, 2020. Rising from an emergency meeting, the political parties endorsed the plans by the Enugu state government through the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) to conduct the local government election on February 29th, 2020, noting that the governor has shown immense sincerity since his assumption as governor to toe the line of great leader and democrats in conducting local government election as at when due.

Speaking to media after the meeting, the newly elected Inter Party Chairman in the state Barrister ken Ike noted that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has continued to raise the bar in the democratic process in Nigeria as can be attested by his wide margin of victory in the last election in the state. He further pointed out the Governor in his usual manner reiterated his resolve to ensure that all parties in the state will be given equal opportunity to test their popularity in the democratic contest. That is true leadership.

As a result of this assurance and looking back to his previous foot steps, is obvious the governor is really is making and indelible foot print in the sand of time hence the Registered Political parties have decided to throw its weight behind the scheduled local government election in the state.

The parties thank the governor and his team in their effort to turnaround the state and restore the the true glory of Enugu as the capital of Eastern Eastern Nigeria.

They equally thanked him in his magnanimity in giving opposition in the state free hands to operate as that is the joy of democracy.

In a special remark to the state electoral body, the ENSIEC, the brand new leader of the state IPAC reaffirmed his confidence on the leadership of the electoral body while tasking them to conduct a free and fair election with assurance of offering the electoral body the maximum support of political parties in the state during and after the election.
