Over 4,000 years ago in Babylon, a king died and his mother took a log, burned it in the fireplace and replaced it the next day with an evergreen.

Jesus was not born in December but probably in October. Even the Romans, as cruel as they were, would not have had a census in the winter. The shepherds were out in the field with their flocks, which they would not have been in the dead of winter.

The December date was the Satranila which was the birth of the Sun God because the days become longer. It was a pagan holiday, much like Easter, which was the festival to Ester, the goddess of fertility. Much of Christianity is based on paganism and has just become commercialized.
