7-12
7 And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. 8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword. 9 And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods. 10 And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire. 11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts. 12 And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

I wonder what Christians have to say about this? Using their own criteria against them this makes their God a false violent God. So once again Christians should not throw stones if they live in a glass house.

17-18
17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. 18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves

What do Christians have to say to this? This is their God commanding Moses to kill the women and CHILDREN and to keep the virgins alive.

There is no excuse here! None! He was not forgiving and merciful at all.

He quoted from the bible but as I said, he posted the part that suited his bitter dispensation towards God.

From the book where he got the scripture, God first told them about the blessings that would come upon them as a consequence of choosing to obey His Commands, then He told them about the curses that will come upon them as a result of turning away from Him and serving the devil and his demons.

This makes sense, because God is good and has nothing but to good to give, so those who follow him enjoy blessings. The devil, however, is bad and has nothing but bad to give, and those who follow him suffer his curses.

The way he explained it, one might think that God is the one who puts the curses on people, and that's not true.

He's just bitter towards God, and is finding every childish excuse not to believe in Him for salvation.

In the new testament and some parts of the old testament, we have a better and more solid view of God( though still dim, but better).
ln judaism, God is creator of both good and evil, so he can command evil , he is unquestionable and very much like the one the people would see as a powerful king. The same idea pervades islam.
ln christianity there is a mixture of this idea with another radical idea. The idea that God is also seen in our sufferings crowned with thorns on the cross with open arms as a king reconciling the world to himself. That God is like the sun shining on both the good and evil people. That God is like a father who longs to see his disobedient son come back home.
So there are two major worldviews of God mixed together in christianity, because christianity tries to build on the old testament story.
So this is not a simple answer.

The writings in our religious books generally are ideas about God or encounters with God or perceived revelations of God.

Anyways Jesus is brutal in the OT and meek in the NT. Jesus is not the same yesterday today and tomorrow!
