President Buhari Urges Universities To Increase IGR by EBMedia: 9:54pm On Dec 14, 2019
On Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari urged universities in the country on the need for them to increase their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to enhance sustainable education.

IgbereTV reports that Buhari stated this during the 44th convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The President, who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Dr. Suleiman Raman-Yusuf, said the present administration had contributed a lot to the development of education in the country.

According to him, the future of Nigeria lies in the mode and quality of education provided to the citizens, especially the youth, as they are the nation’s future.

While reiterating that the government alone could not fund education, Buhari noted that in most developed countries, universities support their governments in the funding of education.

He urged universities to contribute their quota to the current efforts to diversify the nation’s economy and create opportunities for economic growth.

The logic is that, the children of the poor should not be educated so that they will remain subservient to their children.

All he cares about is money!!!

He doesn't even care about the decay in the system

As long as you are able to bring in money, you can do whatever you like

Lol at least we don't have more unemployed graduates. They wont be able to afford it after tuition hikes. If facilities improve and frequent strikes stop it's for the best.

They do generate IGR via
1. Sales of pastries
2. Sales of sachet and table water
3. Guest house
4. Lock up stores
And just to mention a few. The problem is not utilizing the revenue probably by university administrators instead many divert them to their personal pocket.

I guess the unions are waiting on the ICPC to prosecute. They never strike over that.
