If you want to grow your business, then you are going to need to be a good speaker because executives and CEO's must be able to present well in front of an audience. Speaking in public and giving talks in front of large audiences has many benefits because not only does it position you as an authority, but it also helps you build a loyal following of people who know and like you. Becoming a professional speaker is a great way to build trust and rapport and to build your brand. Unfortunately, many people shy away from this path due to fear and lacking of skills.

Most of us have no idea what we look like or how our presentation of ourselves is viewed by others. To be a great speaker takes practice and more practice. Just like anything else. Professional speakers are not born, but spend many hours practicing to be their best. Here are some routines done by the pro's that can help you to improve your speaking skills.

Forget memorizing things. Nothing sounds worse than someone speaking word for word something that they have obliviously memorized - Instead of memorizing try to internalize. By remembering the basic content of what you're supposed to say, and using notes as reminders as opposed to notes as a script. Doing this will make your speech some natural and flow through you just like a regular conversation. Speaking naturally will allow you to concentrate more on your pitch and tone and making your speech more interesting to your audience.

Try your speech out with someone first. It's always good to get a second opinion, and by doing your speech in front of a friend first they can give you a more objective critique of it then you would be able to do yourself. Ask them to pay special attention to your delivery as well as the content
Try videotaping yourself. This is probably the best way that you can actually see what your audience would see and how you've really done. Try to do this before your presentation as well as during (if possible). This will allow you to pick out your weak and strong points. That way you can work on these specific aspects and improve over time.

Tape recording your speeches audio is another powerful tool in improving your speaking skills. By listening back to your speech you will be able to pinpoint areas that will need to work on, as well as acknowledge strong points.

Make eye contact during your speech. If it helps to imagine everyone in there underwear so be it (just try not to laugh). But you should keep an eye contact with members of your audience throughout the duration of your speech, doing so by focusing on each member for a few seconds and then moving on to the next person. Try to spend and equal amount of time on everyone and you can either move left to right or up and down. By doing this you will make everyone in the audience feel as though you are talking directly to them. This will also keep there interest up in what you have to say.
