As we gradually approach a new year, we can say it has been a year full of diverse form of education. Ranging from Law, academics, finance, medicine, governance and security.

Though little achievement has been recorded in the education sector, for government it was business as usual as nothing shows commitment from the federal government and several state government in repositioning the sector.

One of the low point is the reappointment of the Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu whose first terms in office recorded no substantial achievement. His reappointment came to most of us in the sector as a surprise as we were actually expecting a new and sound mind to occupy the office.

Jamb was also another agency which primary objective has been change to majorly generate fund for the government. This year the board conducted one of the worst computer based UTME exam as results of a computer based examination took the board forever to release. The board reasons for such delay was that there were irregularities in the process. So far, the board has receive little or no commendation of the conduct of its exam but has rather received heap of praises for generating revenue. Someone please tell Jamb and the federal government that if they want to commercialise Jamb, they should do it by selling it abroad.

Some State Governments have actually done well in repositioning the education sector in their respective states. Some of the states doing well include: Kano State with governor Ganduje placing premium of Girl child and Almajiri education. His counterpart in Borno Zulum also commission some school building in the first 100 days of his administration, and he is also working hard to get Almagiris in the state off the streets for formal Education, also on the list is the governor of Edo state who has continue to improve the face of Education since his assumption of office. The newly elected governor of Oyo sate have also priortise education and some of his achievement includes distribution of textbooks and writing material to students, providing furniture and rehabilitation of dilapidated school buildings, another high of his administration is him allocating 23% of the 2020 budget to education.

TRCN, reawakening of the teachers registration body in a good step in the right direction, but government should try and make the body achieve its objectives and not turn if to another revenue generating body. Teachers should start getting value for hard work. The idea to free the sector from untrained teachers is commendable.

Not too much can be said about the sector in terms of achievement, but we will continue to encourage all stake holder involve in the development of the sector to increase their commitments to the sector and lets have an education sector which is ICT driven, easily accessible to everyone, and also full of standards.
