Regardless of whether you fill your gas tank only once a month or several times a week, you should pay attention to safety at the petrol pump. While static electricity rarely occurs on the gas pump, there are a few things you can do to be on the safe side when refueling. Here are 10 things to consider when pumping gas.

1.
Do not let the engine run

Make sure you park your vehicle and switch off the engine before pumping gasoline. You should also turn off all additional 12-volt power
sources such as phone chargers, as in rare cases these can be a potential igniter of a fuel fire.

2.
Do not use your mobile phone

Gas stations are busy places. While you are unlikely to generate an electrical spark when using your cell phone near a gas tank, you should avoid using your phone so you can stay alert and focus on what you are doing.

3.
Don't overfill

Stay alert and be careful not to overfill your gas tank. Most fuel tanks will close automatically when the tank is full. So trust the tank so that you don't spill gasoline everywhere.

4.
Keep gas away from skin and eyes

If you get gasoline on your skin, wash the affected area in lukewarm water and soap. If you get gases in your eyes, you should rinse them with tap water for at least 15 minutes and remove the contact lenses. Avoid rubbing your eyes.

5.
Leave children in the car

Children should be left in the car while refueling outside the vehicle. This not only helps them stay away from toxic fumes, but also helps you to focus your attention on what you are doing.

6.
Do not smoke

Never smoke near the gas pump. And that should go without saying, but never light lighters or matches near a gas pump.

7.
In case of fire

If you feel a fire while refueling, drive away from the vehicle. Leave the nozzle in place and immediately notify a service station employee.

8.
Use the correct container

When filling a container with gas, make sure that it is an approved portable container. Leave it on the ground when filling and then put it in the vehicle. Make sure the cover is tight and detach the container from your car as soon as you reach your destination.

9.
Do not get back in your vehicle

Do not get back into your vehicle when refueling. A small amount of static electricity can build up and cause a spark when touching the metal, which can be dangerous when mixed with gasoline vapors.

10.
Transport gas safely

When transporting gasoline in a portable container, make sure it is safe in the vehicle so that it does not tip over and spill. You should also never leave gasoline in the sunlight or in the trunk of a vehicle.

11.. Ensure the fuel pump meter is reset to read from 0.00 before your tank starts being filled angry.... Shine your eye.... This is Nigeria and everybody is.... lipsrsealed

12..Open your fuel tank by yourself.... Do not let those attendants lay their careless fingers on your tank cover.... That was how one filling station attendant broke my friend's car fuel tank cover.... Car is a 2016 Vokswagen Golf......dude ended up coughing out almost 59k to get it replaced...

13. . Ignore any attempt by the filling station attendant to coerce you into buying any fuel additives..... Those shit will just stir up dirt residue in your fuel tank which will end up blocking your car's fuel nozzles...... And no.... those additives do not reduce fuel consumption sad

14...Please do not irritate those guys selling burantashi at filling stations, especially if you are male and with a lady... Tactfully and nicely reject their advertisements to you if you are not interested.... Do not go all Rambo on them else they will spoil your life patapata.. I really do not know how you want to explain to the lady in your car and other bystanders why the Burantashi guys are calling you "customer" and asking you if you are not buying "your usual" today grin
