I know alot will disagree but we know this as facts that we will never leave the developing stage if we don't help control our population Yeah it's very correlated, but fortunately the living standard of those people living in third world countries (like nigeria) will improve as soon as the fertility rate reach 2,1 children per women, since it is extremely essential for any country to provide good quality of life for its population. Most people do not realize it, but every country in the world, including the more developed today, such as Norway, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, etc. were underdeveloped at the time that their fertility rates were 6 children per woman, as is currently in most of Africa. Even China realized this and implemented the one child policy because It knew It would never become a developed country with high fertility rate. With fewer children, there are more investment in education and less spending on expenses for both the State and for the family itself. A good example of this is Botswana, which has the lowest fertility rate in sub saharan Africa, and thanks to that, it is sub saharan Africa' s most developed country.
There isn't a law in Nigeria stating 1/2 children per women yet but we can take this to our hands, birth control should be practiced and taught to the uneducated , maximum per woman should be 3 children . Let's think about the future generation at least , how do you expect the next generation of nigerians to live if the population hits 500million+ when the government cannot even care for 150million.
Educate friends and family please to practice safe sex, use birth control methods.

Thanks for coming to my pep talk.

Our population is a factor because it is a nation of typically unproductive, unimaginative people.

Many would come for me but the fact speaks for itself.

How many patents are registered in Nigeria annually?

What is our GDP Per Capita?

What product of Nigerian origin is sought after by the outside world?

Op no, our resources can cater for this gigantic population.

The problem is true leadership.

Selflessness + vision toward dev.

Nigeria need A leader with the aforementioned qualities, which unfortunately I think is impossible.

A politician that is selfless and at the same time has vision toward development can NEVER rule this country.

I can explain the above.

Well, Buhari has none.

Its problem because of consistent failures of our past and present leaders to think ahead and be proactive in their policies... Imagine a situation where there's quality education, electricity, good business enabling environment matching up with our youthful population... We could have been going toe to toe with any developed nation...But as it stands now give birth to number of children you can take care of... Happy new year!!

The population should rather be an advantage rather than what we see.China bank on its large population to develop its economy. We need to think and change and the time is NOW

I think our greatest gift is our population. Our biggest problem is the government and the masses

For how long would we continue to blame leadership?

For how long would the problem be your neighbour and not yourself?

Create.

Produce.

Create for your neighbourhood.

Create for export.

Art, clothing, software, food products, fragrances etc.

These excuses would take you nowhere.

The population growth was supposed to be an advantage for our workforce and industrialization policies, however, our greedy and corrupt leaders since independence couldn’t foresee the catastrophe they were creating in Nigeria by stealing funds meant for development.

Sad, but reality is, corruption is wholly part of the system now and the eye service attention every administration including this present pays to it will NEVER solve the problem, unfortunately, population control seems to be the more feasible opportunity cost

OP nice write up but I would like to add that our problem is low human capital development. So even if we copy China policy we would still not grow.
