Pope Francis was happily greeting children and pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square on Tuesday when he slapped a woman’s hand to free himself.
The pope was making his way to the Nativity scene at the center of Vatican City.

As he walked away from the crowd, a woman grabbed his hand and yanked him toward her, video shows.

He became visibly upset and began slapping the woman’s hand in an attempt to free himself from her grip, and he briefly shouted at the woman.
Prior to the incident, the woman had made a sign of the cross. She addressed the 83-year-old pope as she took his hand but it’s unclear what she was trying to tell him.


As the woman attempted to speak to him, he hit out at her hand in an attempt to free himself from her grip.
Video footage of the incident did not reveal what the pair said to each other during the encounter.

The woman tugged at him really hard, and he's an old man, 80+ .... that would have caused him some serious discomfort in his shoulder.

Anyway he has apologized sha.

In the video, she pulled and possibly twisted his arm pretty hard. He winced in clear pain. He's elderly and allegedly has health issues. He could have handled it better, but he might have panicked briefly because the woman had a kung-fu grip on him and seemed weird.

It would be interesting to know what was so important that she felt the need to wrestle the pope.

He apologized in his new year's sermon.
