The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Engineer David Nweze Umahi, has promised to tackle the issue of land owners, who are still resident within the campus of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), thereby obstructing the infrastructural development plan of the institution.

The Governor made this known on Saturday, 21st December, 2019, while receiving the Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu–Alike, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba and some senior officials of the University, at his Uburu country home in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

‘’I will take the issue of villagers residing within the campus seriously and make sure they are relocated’’ he affirmed.

He also assured the Vice-Chancellor of his administration’s continued support and collaboration with the University authorities.

Speaking further, Engr. Umahi commended Prof. Nwajiuba for his passion towards the young University. He pointed out that despite that he (Prof. Nwajiuba) is not from Ebonyi State, he has put in so much effort in transforming the University, praying that posterity would be kind to him.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, who led the University management team on the courtesy visit to appreciate and thank the Governor, applauded his Excellency, Engr. Umahi for his various kind gestures to the University, ranging from construction of the road leading to the University from Nkwagu junction, construction of Engineering workshop in the campus, yearly Christmas gifts to staff and students and appointment of two staff of the University, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima and Dr. Chinyere Elom into his cabinet and other demonstration of his love and support for the institution.

‘’It is good to say thank you, you have been a wonderful Governor to the University, we are very grateful for everything you have shown us’’ Nwajiuba said.

Prof. Nwajiuba also used the opportunity to appeal to the Ebonyi State helmsman to use his good offices to settle the issue of some original owners of the University land who are still occupying some parts of the campus, thereby obstructing the infrastructural development plan and expansion of the Institution. He noted that the University, even with its meagre resources has gone out of its way to negotiating and resettling some of them, adding that under his watch, the institution has maintained a policy of no confrontation with members of the host community, whom he noted, are really good hosts.
