Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

The presidency on Monday said President Muhammadu Buhari will not interfere in the row over planned increase in the price of electricity tariff in the country.

There have been condemnation over the planned increase as power distribution companies on Monday declared that the new electricity tariffs shall become enforceable from April 1.

However, speaking on Channels Television programme ‘Politics Today’ on

Monday evening, Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, said the issue of electricity tariff is not something that is within the purview of the presidency.

According to him, it is too early to ask President Buhari to speak on the matter.

He added that even if the president has to speak on the matter, it will be at the last minute when the matter cannot be resolved by the affected bodies.

“Talking about electricity tariff, it is not something strictly within the purview of the presidency. You have the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, you have the Ministry of Power and I know that today, in the news media generally, there is a reaction from the Ministry of Power on that story.

“They are the ones to respond at this point. There are certain things that the presidency only comes in at the very last resort so that when the president speaks, it is the final say. It is rather early to ask the president to wade into this matter at this point”, he said.

Its times like this we ought to vehemently say no like the protest on subsidy during GEJ tenure.

The president can't intervene, he is not aware of anything happening in this country including what he has even been briefed on.

But it seems our mumu never do especially if we let this go.

They talk of increasing the tariff without talking about constants power supply.

Prepaid meters are not given priority.

Residence still contribute to buy cables and transformer that would be claimed by power coys used to bill us indiscriminately.

Naija we hail.

Does Buhari pays electricity bills? How will he not be nonchalant or insensitive when all the perks of office are being provided by the state.

How does this govt expects citizens that earn minimum wage of 30k monthly to comfortably pay high electricity bills for the epileptic power supply that is now rocket science to his regime?

This is just another indictment on the president's anti-policies because the regime is in place to ameliorate the suffering of Nigerians but alas, it's now an oppression.
