Lagos ACN Crisis Deepens as
By Olawale Olaleye, 12.04.2010

Battle for the soul of Lagos State between rival groups loyal to former governor Bola Tinubu and his successor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) may have commenced fully as people presumed to be loyal to the  governor were allegedly sidelined in the ward congresses that held last Thursday across the state.
The move may be a clear signal that Tinubu loyalists are bent on demonstrating its firm control of the affairs of the party ahead of next years election.

Although, ACN leaders in the state were said to have opted to maintain status quo in other to avoid division, factions believed to be loyal to Fashola have however condemned the manner in which the initiative was handled by the party leadership.
The aggrieved party members have also threatened to stage massive protest tomorrow as a way of expressing their displeasure against the outcome of the ward congresses. Ironically, the local government congresses are scheduled to hold tomorrow in the state.
A source in the Fashola camp described the ward congress as a complete sham. He said what the leadership of the party had done was to subtly position some people who are loyal the Mandate group in the state. Mandate is a group loyal to the former governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The source confirmed an earlier understanding reached by party leaders that the congresses will be used to maintain status quo and that in doing this, it was expected that people who had died or defected to other parties would be replaced through a consensus arrangement in the wards. He added that the arrangement was however observed in the breach as a faction within the leadership had already prepared a list of their loyalists who were foisted on the party.
Citing what happened in Kosofe local government area of the state as an instance, the source said a man identified as Baba Sunmola is the one doing the bidding of Tinubu in that area. The man already had a list of their people and that was what was adopted at the congresses. And this is a 75 year old man we are talking about.

But Lagos ACN chairman, Chief Dele Ajomale who dismissed the claim by the aggrieved party members said the ward congress was a huge success and was well planned.
He said initially, there was a misinformation that Lagos State was exempted from participating in the exercise but that he had immediately issued a counter-statement that was equally published. He said he also wrote to the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which sent in observers as well as the police. He said three members were also sent to each ward as returning officers as part of plans to ensure the success of the exercise.

Besides, he said the reason some states were exempted by the national headquarters of the party was because they had not completed their registration exercise. He said Lagos had since completed the registration exercise and had even computerised the operation.
Ajomale also hinted that the local government congresses would also hold tomorrow but that the partisan gathering would be purely for elected delegates. He however denied the claim that some people that were considered as loyalists of other groups were deliberately displaced at the congresses.

I am not aware of that, but let me assure you that there is nothing you do that people will not complain, especially those running after positions. And when people dont believe in God, there is nothing you do that will please them. So, nobody can be displaced arbitrarily, he said.
Meanwhile, sources within the partys Council of Elders said Fashola need not worry about the developments in the congresses since he and Tinubu had settled their differences.
At the right time Asiwaju will only need to give the instruction to the delegates on how they will return the governor without any problem, he said.

so because you see igbos everywhere, you think they make up 80% of the population?? do you know that in london, we see nigerians everywhere but that does not mean they make up even 50% of the population. they simply walk about alot since they work more than the whites in london.

the same can be said in lagos, when you see igbos everywhere it simply means they work alot and it has nothing to do with population. you are a minority in lagos and the north so as the yorubas and hausas are minorities in the east.

Always talking poo. In case you do not know Igbos own 75% of Abuja and almost all the viable businesss in Jos. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-54751.0.html
In Lagos, they even rent houses to Yorubas.

i do not have time to trade insults. so because igbos OWN 75% of abuja (which is a lie or some cheap propaganda) means they make up to 75% of the population?

"in lagos, they even rent houses to the yorubas"quote author=igbobuigbo

so? i am sure the yorubas would not mind, infact i think they would be happy! but when people like you start trying to take the piss with your made up figures and all, then you are looking for trouble. when the lagosians start to feel insecure, you will start running back to the east as if the whole world is against you not knowing that it is you who made them feel that way. anyway, continue in your illusions cheesy

btw, tell me

if igbos make up to 80% of lagos then what is the population of the yorubas, hausas, ijaws, itsekiris, fulanis etc. pls i am willing to know

from the link, do you not sense that el rufai was trying to appease the igbos in abuja since they complained undecided. do you actually think that igbos OWN 73% of abuja? not that i care, infact, i do not mind igbos owning all my land as long as they know who is boss!

This has nothing to do with the Igbos or their Yoruba brothers. It has everything to do with Lagos. It will be very sad if the only reason Fashola is being tossed about by the party leadership is because they want to install a gov that will be 100% loyal to Tinubu. In as much as I like Tinubu as a politician,he should not turn himself to a demi God.As far as the public knows,Fashola is a hard working gov and he is well loved. It will dampen so many hearts if he is not represented as the ACN candidate especially if people think its just because of the problem he has with Tinubu.Nobody wants an angel as gov.He has his faults too but in the interest of ACN,lagosians including the Igbos,Yorubas,Hausas Ijaws etc living in Lagos, the fight between the two men should not affect the chances of presenting the best person as the candidate.God bless Nigeria.
