Iran has announced that its military 'unintentionally' shot down a Ukrainian jetliner, killing all 176 aboard.

The statement, run on Iranian state TV, came on Saturday morning and blamed "human error" for the shootdown.

The jetliner, a Boeing 737 operated by Ukrainian International Airlines, went down on the outskirts of Tehran during takeoff just hours after Iran launched a barrage of missiles at US forces in neighbouring Iraq.

Iran had denied for several days that a missile downed the aircraft. But then the US and Canada, citing intelligence, said they believed Iran shot down the aircraft.

The plane, en route to the Ukrainian capital of Kiiv, was carrying 167 passengers and nine crew members from several countries, including 82 Iranians, at least 63 Canadians and 11 Ukrainians, according to officials.

And this is a nation that wants to fight a world power. Smh. I'm sure it's with flat bed and arrows they'll use to assume all the threats they've been spewing. Foolish country of terrorists.

This is exactly why Iran must never posses advanced military weapons. Imagine the height of irresponsibility.

You only have missiles, you've caused families to mourn. 176 people killed like rats. More bad is that over 70% of them were below 40 years old. Imagine the toll on their families.

If you only had missiles and did this, what would happen when you have nuclear weapons. These weaponry comes with discipline, intelligence and responsibility none of which Iran has. From the killing of innocent aid workers, to destabilising the gulf region, to destroying an independents country's embassy the tyranny and irresponsibility of Iran continues. What a sick shit hole country

That's the point....they have equipments they obviously lack the technical know how to operate.
God forbid war breaks out,Iran would just kill all their citizens thinking they are targeting an enemy.so sad.
More reason they have no business having a nuclear weapons.

82 Iranians going to Kiev for what na ? If I have my wat I'll ban muslims from going to any reasonable country .the only time you will be eligible to leave the middle east and Africa is when you have rejected Islam and its teachings.

Then you will be free to leave in secular nations.
