When delegates for the Young African Volunteers network began to arrive the Mount Ned Nwoko Resort in Idumuje Ugboko for the three-day “Preparing Young African Change Agents For Global Impact”, many of them were oblivious of the fascinating experiences that awaited them en route the training to become global change agents.

After the opening and flagoff ceremony by the Honorable Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwuyenga, the delegates were led on a sightseeing tour of the resort that houses a golf course.

Swayed by awe and admiration for the serenity of the tourist centre, the marveled delegates were led from the museum through the zoo to an underground tunnel that’s situated right in the heart of the resort, before climaxing at the tower with an epic view of the town’s topography.

For many, the visit to the underground tunnel was a first time experience and an unforgettable one that marked the peak of the tour.

Director General of Revive Africa Initiative, Amb Ugagaoghene Ogheneyole serving as the tour guide described the underground tunnel in the tradition of the anioma people, as a safe haven for the safeguarding of the royal family.

According to him, it is a taboo for royalty to be captured into captivity hence, should the palace come under any attack from enemy warriors, the royals uses the underground tunnel as a place of refuge.

Adorned with sculptures and designs that depict the cultures and traditions of the anioma people, the underground tunnel is furnished tastefully to a standard befitting of the palace ensuring that the royals lack nothing for as long as the siege last.
