AKWA IBOM ENTREPRENEURS GIVEN COMPETITIVE EDGE
…As workshop on developing wining concept note for TEF grant kicks off in Uyo.

A recent survey conducted in the Uyo metropolis on the challenges of startups and growing businesses showed that most business owners indicated inability to access capital/ facilities as a core factor impeding business growth in the state capital. Uyo is not alone in this, as studies show that 90% of startups and growing businesses could do better if granted access to startup capitals and facilities to enable them scale up their businesses. As a direct panacea to this problem, various grants, loans and facilities have been instituted by individuals, governments and corporate bodies to facilitate entrepreneurial activities. One of such facilities is the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) grants.

For the past six years, the Tony Elumelu foundation has kept the promise of giving financial empowerment to young African entrepreneurs yearly through the Tony Elumelu Foundation Grants for entrepreneurs in Africa. However, because of the prominence and publicity that the programme amasses, only the best of the best end up scaling the hurdles to win the prize money. It is in a bid to educate Akwa Ibom entrepreneurs on the rare opportunity afforded them by the TEF Grant, while fully equipping them to participate successfully and compete favorably with their contemporaries all across the African continent, that the Directorate Of Marketing and Brand Management, in collaboration with the small and medium enterprises development agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Organized a one day – per – senatorial district free training on Developing a wining Concept note for the Tony Elumelu Foundation Grant across the state.

The event which started today at the Uyo local government council hall for entrepreneurs in Uyo senatorial district of Akwa Ibom State will move to Eket Senatorial District tomorrow 14th January 2020 at the Eket Local Government Council Hall by 10am, while entrepreneurs in Ikot ekpene Senatorial district will take their turn on Wednesday, 15th January 2020. The Uyo event had in attendance, the Chairman of Uyo LGA, Elder Imoh Okon, SSA on Marketing and Brand Management, Mr Ime Uwah, SA on Marketing and Brand Management, Mrs Lydia Udoh, SA on Entrepreneurial Development, Mrs Meflyn Anwana, SMEDAN state coordinator, Lucy Ekpenyong and over 300 entrepreneurs.

It is important to note that this training is a human capacity development initiative of the directorate of marketing and brand management in line with the Dakkada philosophy espoused by the Udom Emmanuel administration. Participants at the end of the training were of the consensus that the workshop has better positioned them to compete and win the Tony Elumelu Foundation Grant.
