Amotekun: What Is Your Opinion As A Nigerian? To Have Or Not To Have. by Nobody: 8:05pm On Jan 18, 2020
I will start with mine.
With Amotekun so greatly riling up the North while at the same time unanimously supported by the South West and even the South East who didn't use to support the South West, I think Amotekun is a good opportunity to move Nigeria towards regional self-determination. That is on a political aspect. With respect to security, the Federal government-controlled Police force and the Army have all along ignored the security risk that has engulfed the South West (and the South East). In some cases the FG-controlled security apparatus was reported to have gone in to disarm local communities few days before the invasion of killer herdsmen. And curiously as rampant as these attacks and crimes from killer herdsmen have been the FG's refusal to apprehend them and the FG's decision to tag these crimes as mere squabble between farmers and herdsmen showed that the FG-controlled security forces were being used to perpetuate the expansionist desire of a tribe to the exclusion of other Nigerians. As Nigerians, the right to life, peace and security must no longer be assumed to be an exclusive preserve of a herdsmen-controlled Federal Government...

Amotekun was not set up to deal with any tribe of people. It was set up to checkmate insecurity and crimes from whoever. If Yoruba men are found to be criminals, they will be dealt with by Amotekun and appropriately handed over to security forces. If Igbos are found to be the criminals, or Fulani or Hausa or herdsmen, they too will be similarly dealt with, That Miyetti-Allah and Arewa CF and other Fulani groups including the CJN are disproportionately jittery over the setting up of Operation Amotekun speaks volume. And it is not the operation of Amotekun that stands the chance of damaging national unity, it is the reaction and the colonial mentality of these herdsmen who feel they have a god-given right to destroy other parts of the country that will eventually irreparably damage things.

Amotekun should not only stay, other regions of the country should learn from the experience and emerge their own outfits to help the security forces in dealing with security challenges. As Nigerians we have the right to security of lives and properties, a right that many of us can no longer blindly leave to the discretion of the Federal Government that has continued to fail us in the South West.

May it last long.
May God bless those behind the idea
May wisdom remain with them
May they live long as they seek for others
May it last longer than the brains that formed it
May they be in unity to sustain it
May they defeat their enemies
It's a joy to the progressive mind and
May the joy last.
May amotekun stay longer
