Shelter is one of the basic necessities of life. In Akwa Ibom State, a social housing advocate, and an architect by profession, Arch. Ezekiel Nya-Etok has been in the forefront of advocacy for an affordable (but subsidized) social housing scheme that would enable ownership of houses by both the low, middle and high income earners in the society.
Today, the first phase of a 3 bedroom housing estate numbering over 40 units at a prime location in Ikot Ntuen Community close to the University of Uyo Teaching hospital is ready for interested members of the public wishing to become house owners within the capital city. The estate named, Social Housing Estate, is a Public Private Partnership initiative between the federal government, Akwa Ibom State government and the private developer, Arch.Nya-Etok who is the CEO of Novone Consult Ltd. While the state government provides the land for the construction of the estate which is in phases, the federal government through the Ministry of Power, Lands and Housing provides the infrastructure in the estate, while the private investor, Arch. Ezekiel-Nya-Etok of Novone Consult, is the property developer.
Conducting newsmen round the housing estate, Saturday the Social housing advocate known nationally for his consistent advocacy for affordable housing for Nigerians, explained that the first phase of the estate which will be formally commissioned during the Easter period is up for interested members of the public to buy. The estate which would be gated, has a power system, water reticulation system, Water treatment plant, 4 fire hydrants, asphalted and paved road network and many more basic facilities and infrastructure that would make the estate a haven on earth for would be residents. It will be managed by the investor, Arch. Nya-Etok
According to him, his focus is to ensure that Akwa Ibom civil servants between Grade Level 01 to 10, and other members of the public become residents of the estate. A unit of the houses goes at N8.5 Million for civil servants, while other members of the public will get the house at N12.5Million. To become a house owner in the estate, interested persons would have to make a 2.5% deposit payment for the cost of the house and would have to complete payment within a period of time that will be agreed by the developer.
The Snr. Pastor of Full Life Christian Centre, Rev. Ntia Ntia was also conducted round the estate. He lauded Arch. Nya-Etok for the initiative and prayed God to grant him the grace to see the project through.
