The issue of security in Nigeria is an age old problem, from militants to bandits, kidnappers, ritualist and worst of all terrorism. The truth is every part of Nigeria has its unique security challenges and I'm afraid that the Nigeria Police Force does not have the required personel and proper training couple latest technology to combat criminality in Nigeria but the issue is will regional security out fit such as Amotekun solve this problem? The answer is No. And for reasons been that given any form of regional or state control over any security out fit will send Nigeria to the natural state of man where life is brutal, barbaric and short. History should have taught us about the Bakasi Boys who were formed by traders in Aba. Even though the intent for their establishment was for good, over time the were hijacked by politicians to target political rivals and it became the albatross of people in the region which later agitated for the Bakasi to be disband. Amotekun will not be different from the Bakasi in sence that it will give politicians at all levels opportunity to target rivals legally. It is true that the formation of Amotekun is for good but looking at long term effect it is advisable to empower the NPF in its fight against criminality in Nigeria but for peace to riegn the federal government should allow the formation of Amoteku and in the next three years the same people of the region will disband it themselves

I beg to disagree with the OP. The examples you gave are not enough to conclude that Amotekun will fail.
Take the case of OPC for example, in the last 20yrs or more, they have been providing security for people in Lagos and other part of the West. Though, i wont fault you for thinking the way you did but the Nigerian Police you proposed to be better funded and equiped are the worst culprit. The Police are the worst organisation in Nigeria to give such task to.
i cant say some Amotekun members wont become tools in the hands of some politician, but what you should kn is that this are our people not some other tribes who wont care about us, moreover, we know them and they can be dealt with directly or indirectly(if u kn, u kn).
Moreover, they will be guided by Law, which means there operations will differ from OPC and Bakassi Boys.
Amotekun is also a prelude to the creation of regional police that we have all been clamouring for.
