Given the soaring cost of education in the global market, it is understood that most international students prefer to study in own land rather than studying in a foreign country. Educational institutions have introduced many scholarships to cater to the financial needs of the students who are also academically outstanding. A brief account of the scholarships for international students in New Zealand is given in this article.

New Zealand Excellence Awards
The Education New Zealand and New Zealand Universities have come forward to fund education fees for international students, especially, Indians, on the name of scholarships. Not all but only those students who possess the passion to study, have untapped potential and satisfy the eligibility criteria may apply for the scholarship.
Students should fill out the scholarship form separately as early as possible because of the availability of limited seats.

Of all the participating universities, eight universities offer this scholarship which are-
• The University of Auckland
• University of Otago and
• Victoria University of Wellington
• University of Canterbury
• The University of Waikato
• Massey University
• Lincoln University
• AUT University

An amount of NZ 5,000 and NZ 10,000 is sanctioned to post-graduate and under-graduate scholars.
A lot of other scholarships are offered by the New Zealand government and philanthropists to students at an undergraduate, postgraduate and research level.

Before you Apply
Preparations beforehand is the quality of a wise individual, isn’t it? It is best that students first go through all the scholarship schemes that are provided by national and state governments and the government of the host country, that is, where you’re going to continue your further studies. First things first, surf through the internet or ask overseas education consultants about the name of scholarships, eligibility criteria and the documents required.

Secondly, check if you can apply for other scholarships parallelly to save your time. The only thing to keep in mind is to not mix the application forms. List out all the scholarships and their deadlines to avoid last-minute confusion.

While Applying
The early bird catches the worm! Begin your abroad studies journey backed up with thorough research and applying to the scholarships at the earliest. Fill out your personal information, academic details carefully and do not miss to highlight your achievements. Submit all the documents that are asked for along with other certifications to prove that you’re fit for the scholarship.

For example, the documents required to be submitted while applying for New Zealand Excellence Awards are-
• Proof that you’ve received Offer of Place in a higher educational institution of New Zealand.
• A document that holds valid for your nationality or proves your citizenship such as Aadhaar card or passport.
• A resume or portfolio that explains your academic or work experience and a lot about yourself.
• All the academic transcripts in the English language like the SSC, HSC, degree, mark sheets and other certifications you have taken till date.
• In addition to it, names and email-Ids of the referee must be submitted who can be approached by the institution people later for inquiries.

Remember to certify the academic documents from authorized personnel. It proves that the certificates and mark sheets are original and not forged.
After all the process is completed, take a quick look at your application for mistakes, if any. Once it is all good to go from your end, submit it and wait patiently for the revert.

Scholarships are a value-add to your career as it displays your diligence and sincerity towards your academics. It also catches eyeball of the employers and makes you stand out of the crowd.
