LASG Bans Motorcycle And Tricycle In Certain Areas – Lagosians React by Serendipity101: 10:57am On Jan 24, 2020
The Lagos state government has announced a ban on the use of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in some areas of the state.
In a bid to ensure freer and safer roads across the Center of Excellence, the Lagos state government has announced that 2000 traffic prohibition signs have been installed in the state – clearly indicating areas where motorcycles and tricycles are no longer allowed to commute.

This was disclosed in a series of tweets posted on the micro-blogging platform Twitter. The authorities are optimistic that the move will reduce the heavy traffic experienced in the metropolitan city.

Major highways out of bound to motorcycles and tricycles include:

Lagos Ibadan Expressway
Oworoshoki Oshodi Expressway
Apapa Oshodi Expressway
Lagos Ikorodu Expressway
Babangida Boulevarde
Eti-Osa Lekki Epe Expressway
Lagos Abeokuta Expressway
Lagos Badagry Express
Funsho Williams Avenue
Eti-Osa Lekki Coastal Road
Agege Motor Road

Motorcycles and tricycles are largely patronized by residents of the state due to the ease they provide in moving from one place to another. Having them out of the road, will limit transportation options available. While some people are against the move, others are in support of it, stating that they constitute nuisance on the road.

@Ayoosanemon1

“Lastma, police have compromised on Okada and tricycle, they ride on 3rd mainland bridge, Eko bridge, they struggle with you on the express rather than to go on service lane. Pls act now.”

@OlaitanKalejai1

LASG needs to halt this abuse. If LASG can't ban them (Okada) from Lagos road due to the peculiarity of our road traffic, they should have another means to support the task force because they can't be in all restricted roads at the same time to enforce the laws.

@Bijelee

“For the umpteenth time, plans...Please execute already! It feels insane driving in Lagos sometimes, how long are we going to endure the madness? Most of the law enforcement agencies are easily compromised. They just look away, I wonder what will be done differently.”

@ikoreal2005

“Just enforce the law. I am strongly of the opinion that motorbikes as a form of transportation can exist among the lot to expand options&promote healthy competition while tempering social poverty& inequality. Enforcing humane regulations is crucial though. God bless Lagos State.”
