NPA To Divert Vessels To Eastern Ports To Reduce Congestion At Lagos Terminals by Anambralstson: 8:48pm On Jan 24, 2020
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) says it has come up with solutions to reduce the waiting time of vessels berthing at Lagos terminals.

In a statement on Friday, Jatto Adams, NPA general manager of corporate strategic communications, said as from January 27, vessels waiting to berth within Lagos pilotage district will be diverted to other terminals.

He said in the case that Lagos terminals cannot discharge any vessels within four days, such vessels will be diverted to eastern ports.

According to Adams, the action was taken to promote the ease of doing business and curtail negative impact of long turn around time of vessels on stakeholders.

“In response to the recent increase in the waiting time of vessels calling at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa, the Nigerian Ports Authority have met with shipping companies and terminal operators and arrived at the following decisions aimed at immediately resolving the congestion in the Lagos Pilotage District, ” the statement read.

“As from Monday January 27, 2020, vessels which have waited to berth at any terminal within the Lagos Pilotage District will be diverted to other terminals with capacity to berth vessels within the district.”

“In the event that all terminals in Lagos cannot discharge any vessels within four days, such vessels will be diverted to the Eastern Ports (other pilotage districts) for immediate berthing.

” The Authority will liaise with other relevant government agencies on behalf of stakeholders to expedite the clearance of vessels and cargoes, where necessary.

“These actions have been taken to promote the Ease of Doing Business Policy of the Federal Government and curtail the negative economic impact that the long turn around time of vessels has on stakeholders. We solicit the cooperation of all stakeholders.”

I swear social media are good places to catch fun especially when clowns are many. grin grin grin.

Clowns will soon start giving all shades of explanations even though the reason for the NPA decision is clearly stated.

Things like; how the fulani is doing this, because of afonja that, how tinubu or buhari is trying to protect or to expose whatever and so on

We will see more than 20 threads with caption: The real reason NPA diverted vessels to east port, etc.

Now let grab prop corn and start sipping my zobo before the comedy begins. grin grin

To prove to you that Nigerians are very difficult to please, let's wait for 3 months from now if this policy really becomes operational, many Nigerians will start complaining that they only want their vessels to be clear in Lagos and you will wonder if it is not the same people who have been clamoring for other ports to be operational all these while.
Some will even bribe to ensure that their goods only get cleared from Lagos and no where else. Non be this my people, I know us Wella

No single leader has been in power since 1970 and people of different ethnic backgrounds have ruled Nigieria since 1970.

To debunk the insinuations that no 'stone was rejected' and point out that the policy of traffic diversion is a very old one.

The policy became less popular with the liquidation of the Nigerian National Shipping Line (NNSL) and the Deregulation and privatization of the Maritime industry.

You are unnecessarily preoccupied with the 'end of Lagos'

Lagos has been a Maritime city for over 500years and Maritime activities will continue in Lagos for centuries to come.

The stone was neglected and rejected purposely for fear that a particular region might gain economic power and might try to break away from Nigeria, we know its cheaper and easier for ships to call in the eastern ports , majority of importers are from the east who spend a lot of money clearing and bringing their goods from Lagos , we are not talking about diverting goods from Lagos to the east , we are talking about this shipping companies moving to the east completely , FG never gave the easteren ports the attention it gave the ones in Lagos , the ports were abandoned

Imagine what some people are jubilating about??

in simple terms, only ships that have waited in Lagos for 4days without berthing would be diverted to Onne Portharcout
