If the partner complains, then there must be a reason for it. Except the person is just being unreasonable, then they can be ignored. otherwise, it's always good to listen and make our partner see reason with us. personally, if I have to travel, I like to be at peace with all the people I'm leaving at home.

Why would your partner be mad at you if you explained that you are going to work? Except there is no trust. Such a relationship is starting on a wrong footing. You explain to your partner again that you have to go to work. If you do not have a job, you can not play your role when you eventually get married. So if your partner is mad at you for working, please ignore him/her and continue with your work.
