Delta SSG, Ebie Inaugurates, Delta State Child Rights Law Implementation Committee.

Members of the Delta State Child Right Law Implementation Committee have been charged to work with unity, common purpose and maximum commitment for them to achieve the objectives for which they have been set up by the state Government.

The Secretary to the Delta State Government Mr. Chiedu Ebie gave the charge when he inaugurated the committee at the Boardroom of Benezia Hotel.

Mr. Ebie said although the Federal Government had enacted the child rights law in the country in 2003, it was domesticated in Delta State in 2009 and since then, efforts to fully implement its provisions had yielded less than expected results, hence His Excellency Senator, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa came up with the initiative of the Child Rights Implementation Committee which is to provide a solid and systematic framework for the operation of the Child Rights Law

The SSG said the Child Rights Law Implementation Committee shall oversee the implementation of the Childs Right law in the state and its functions are to include; to initiate actions that shall ensure the observance and popularization of the rights and welfare of a child as provided by the law, continuously keep under review the states implementation of the rights of the child and develop and recommend to the state and local government through their respective child rights implementation committee specific programs and projects, that will enhance the implementation of rights of the child amongst others.

He therefore urged the Committee to rise up to the challenge and responsibility of this assignment as the state government attaches high priority to it and would provide necessary assistance to facilitate their work.

Earlier in her remarks, the Chairman of the Child Rights Implementation Committee and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development Mrs. Kevwe Agas, said the sustenance and upbringing of the Delta child was of paramount importance to the state government hence the committee would do everything possible to deliver on their mandate.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Barr. Bridget Anyafulu said the State Child Rights Law Implementation Committee is a creation of the child rights law which was conceived in the law as an organ to coordinate and oversee the implementation of the child rights law in the state while stating that the committee drew its membership from a wide range of institutions that were working on child related issues.
