Oyo State government says it will bring the full weight of the law to bear on the criminal and violent takeover of some Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas’ secretariats by the dissolved illegal chairmen loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the government, reports from different parts of Oyo State confirmed on Monday that the sacked chairmen resorted to break-ins and vandalisation of government properties, leading some imposters to seize offices of council Chairmen.

In a statement by  Babatunde Oduyoye, the Special Adviser on Strategy and Political Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde, maintained that the action of the sacked chairmen amounted to criminality and unwarranted provocation.

While condemning what it called unwarranted lawlessness and motor-park-like brigandage perpetrated by the sacked chairmen on Monday, Oduyoye said the imposters broke into council offices, vandalising gates, doors, windows and other properties at the respective local council secretariats.

The government, however, appealed to the teeming people of the State to remain calm, law-abiding and patient, pending the decision of the Court of Appeal on the matter slated for 19 February 2020.

It promised that  “a drastic measure “will be taken on the reports of destruction and violence which characterised the actions of the sacked chairmen on Monday.

Oduyoye said: “We have received reports of vandalisation of government property. We have received reports of wanton destruction of doors, windows, and others, and I can tell you that the governor will not sit down and watch while some people decide to be lawless. This is criminal and the government will pursue it to a logical conclusion.

“So, pending the determination of the cases at the Court of Appeal, I think it is only appropriate for these chairmen to be law-abiding because we had said earlier that it is sub judice and we cannot do anything until these cases are determined in the court.

“For the records, the state government, in a statement yesterday, did say that we are going to ensure we do not allow a breakdown of law and order. As we speak, there are two cases in the Court of Appeal and the cases are coming up on February 19th. I do not know why the Attorney-General of the Federation wrote such a letter that is now being used as excuse by some to act recklessly. We will recall that he did a similar thing on the issue of Amotekun.”

The Special Adviser added that as a law-abiding and peace-loving Government, the 68 caretaker chairmen appointed by Governor Makinde were directed to stay away from the secretariats in order to forestall an outbreak of violence, noting, however, that the chairmen have been charged with keeping peace and order in their respective local councils.

He added: “We in Oyo State are law-abiding citizens. The government directed the chairmen to maintain peace. We have just finished a meeting now and workers in the state under the umbrella of NULGE are on strike, and you now begin to ask why the sacked APC council chairmen went to the local government councils.

“The issue is, there is industrial action by NULGE. I think they are justified by the level of reports we have received of people macheting PDP members they found around the local government councils’ premises, destroying government properties, forcing doors open and all that. NULGE was right to have taken such a decision. We do not begrudge them for doing that but we have told our people to be law-abiding. We have told the chairmen too to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order within the local government areas.”

Speaking on the situation that led to the current imbroglio, Oduyoye maintained that the Court should be allowed to take its decision on who is right or wrong on the matter on ground, insisting, however, that the government, under the leadership of Governor Makinde, would not sit down and watch some desperate elements destroy the state and create fear in the minds of the people.

“Whether one is right or the other is wrong, it is not for me to decide. The court will decide.  This is a very simple matter. An election was held when there was an injunction. Second, elections took place in LCDAs not recognised by the Constitution. These are matters before the court.

“As I said, the court will decide if you can conduct elections in areas not recognized by the constitution and, if you can go ahead to conduct an election when there was a pending injunction, these are matters for the Court of Appeal to decide upon.

Pending that time, we have appealed to the good people of Oyo State to be calm, law-abiding and we will ensure we do something about the report sent to us on those who have destroyed government property,” Oduyoye said.

Just yesterday,
A lady confronted an airforce man who wanted to withdraw money from the ATM without queuing nor ask for a chance to do so.
This Governors think they can sack any elected public servant who is not in their party if they so wishes,
They will soon be shocked at how people have become much more liberated.

The government that sacked the democratically elected LG chairmen is the one that actually encouraged the violent take over ( if any).
The government of Oyo state should be solely held responsible for any breakdown of law in that state.

This of course is not to excuse the mischief of the Ajimobi administration in conducting LG election at the twilight of his tenure. It is a landmine set for the incoming administration and Makinde should have navigated carefully so as not to run foul of the law.

Until INEC conducts the LG elections alongside the governorship elections, we will still be dancing around in a circle.

Mr Governor... This is politics. Use logic and reduce talking.. As much as I dislike Apc to some extent, I always respect their strategic actions when it comes to playing the game of politics.. Pdp during their reign was always brutal as regards using Federal might.. Surround yourself with smart advisers sir and sound political strategist..

Politics is beyond governance alone, it involves dealing with your political enemies too smartly but silently

Smh are you criticizing or praising APC? Because last time I checked ajimobi spent 8 years as Oyo State Governor ? And he’s of the APC lmao illiterates everywhere

And as for Osun they have 3 problems 1. Poor location 2. Poor education 3. Unimaginative/unambitious people

Speaking first hand cos I served there , Aregbe did a lot in terms of Works but ultimately he failed to bring in much investors , last time I checked PDP didn’t even do much in Osun during their tenure either.

So sometimes I really wonder how a sane person doesn’t understand APC are just lesser evil of PDP... they’re the same

Makinde should be careful. This is no doubt a trap set by Ajumobi but he requires patience and advice of legal luminaries to come out of this quagmire.

YouthsPC0:

As General Mohammadu Buhari commissions the Abuja - Kaduna high speed rail project it has become imperative set the records straight not just for history and for humanity sake but most importantly to prevent the attempt by drunk and misguided paid lairs to steal from a man with vision and give the stolen property to a clueless man without direction.

Many have claimed that the Abuja -Kaduna high speed was Initially conceived by Obasanjo the claim is false .
The truth is that under Obasanjo, a consortium submitted a for a RAIL (std guage) project which included the Kaduna- Abuja rail line unfortunately despite initial high interest shown by Obasanjo, the Owu chief dumped the project in pursuit of his third term agenda which unfortunately hit the rocks thanks to Atiku ,Ken Nnamani and Ghali Umar Na'Abba.

When the same idea was submitted to Yardua/Jonathan they accepted it, Although Yardua later died Jonathan pursued it with vigor and commenced its construction and pursued it to conclusion.

Simon Kolawole former editor of Thisday and now publisher of Cable expressly confirms the fact that President Jonathan was the initiator of the project.

Source :

Even Buhari state House website still has the records .

http://www.statehouse.gov.ng/index.php/government/78-featured/108-railway

Obasanjo had nothing to do with it!, people confuse the Abuja light rail project(intra city)whose ground breaking was performed by Obasanjo with the Abuja-Kaduna rail project .

It is imperative to note that apart of the grass clearing (tagged official ground breaking in 2007) for the intracity project Obasanjo never did anything to actualise the dream. the intracity project was originally linked to the Abuja's bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014 which never happened!

See source

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abuja_Light_Rail

GEJ also ensured that the Abuja-Kaduna high speed rail project did not suffer like most government projects, hence when budget provisions could not meet up with counterpart funding levels SURE-P a creation of Jonathan from subsidy Savings came to the rescue

Tinubus Nation newspaper corroborates this :

http://thenationonlineng.net/sure-p-sure-of-abuja-kaduna-railway-date/

Despites starting the project from scratch ,In just 3 years(2014) Jonathan had achieved 70% completion

http://allafrica.com/stories/201312091891.html

The only project that received more attention under Jonathan apart from the Federal University/ Almajiri school project & Rice Farming was this high speed rail. project.

http://nigeriannewspapers.disnaija.com/sun/fg-commissions-n136-392b-abuja-kaduna-railway/

Unfortunately APC chieftains who are shamelessly taking selfies with the project were the ones who claimed the coaches were locomotives.

1. Amaechi Buharis Campaign Director General and current minister of transport:

Hear Amaechi in His own words:

“In fact, I think we have a problem; most people don’t believe that the railway transport is functioning in Nigeria. I didn’t even know, until I started this tour, I never knew that the railway was functioning, it was even from his (MD’s) speech that I learnt that there are some coaches or services that go to Kano or Port Harcourt or elsewhere.

http://dailypost.ng/2015/12/16/i-never-knew-railway-transport-still-existed-in-nigeria-amaechi/

Tolu Ogunlesi : Buharis aide on new media

Stated that the Abuja - Kaduna rail project did not exist , he even went as far as posting pictures of a open field where he claimed a taxi driver took him to to buttress his lies!
Today the young man is tweeting pictures all over the place showing Buhari commissioning a project he earlier claimed did not exist !

His handle : www.twitter.com/toluogunlesi

APC as a party claimed the transformation of the rail sector only existed in the imagination of the former president today they are taking selfies inside another mans idea

APC Campaign Faults Jonathan’s Achievement On Railway, Says ‘Transformation’ Claim Fraudulent, Product Of Over-Active Imagination

http://www.informationng.com/2015/02/apc-campaign-faults-jonathans-achievement-on-railway-says-transformation-claim-fraudulent-product-of-over-active-imagination.html

Winners:

1. Nigerians : we now have a world class rail system we can all be proud of

2. Former President Jonathan : his vision of a world class rail transport is gradually being fulfilled, and for finally giving general Buhari one thing to commission in his second year In Office

3. General Buhari : for not allowing the Demon's that made him cancel the Lagos Metro rail project in 1983 prevail this time

They said PDP destroyed Nigeria I agree with them because this rail project is part of the "destruction".

Supervising painting takes effort so if Amaechi decides to take glory for that no problems even the devil can't take that away from the Buhari administration but that was all they did supervised the paintings.
but instead of taking glory for their Sidon watch painting expedition they used the occasion to insult the Man that conceived and built the structure what a world ?

We hope that there will be something done and something to complete when. General Buhari complete his 4 year tenure as President.

May God continue to Bless Nigeria!!!!

Nigeria Halts China Railway Firm In Its Tracks
NOV 4, 2008

China's top railway builder has encountered a glitch in a lucrative project in Nigeria, jeopardizing a large portion of the firm's future profits and prompting analysts to wonder if a closer look at the risks of its aggressive African investment strategy is in order.

The Nigerian government has temporarily suspended China Railway Construction's $8.3 billion rail project linking Nigeria's north and south. The news sent China Railway Construction shares plunging 18.5%, to 7.99 Hong Kong dollars ($1.03), in Hong Kong, the steepest drop since its initial public offering in March.

Nigeria's Transportation Ministry wants to renegotiate contract terms for the rail link, set to span 1,315 kilometers (817.1 miles) between coastal Lagos and the northern city of Kano, China Railway Construction revealed in a statement filed to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange late Monday night. The government's action deals a big blow to the infrastructure firm, as the rail project represents fully 13.9% of the total value of all its contracts as of Sept. 30, according to the statement.

The Nigerian government's motives are likely both political and financial in nature, analysts say. A turnover of leaders has put major foreign contracts in the country under review and in limbo. Meanwhile, the drastic fall in oil prices has squeezed Nigeria's budget, limiting its ability to finance major infrastructure projects. The 17-month-old administration of President Umaru Yar'Adua has expressed skepticism about the terms for infrastructure and oil contracts negotiated by its predecessor and has called the 2006 contract with China Railway Construction "over inflated."
