A group of Iranian lawmakers have submitted a motion to the Parliament calling for the Islamic Republic’s withdrawal from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) after the three European signatories to a 2015 nuclear deal failed to meet their contractual commitments following the US’s exit.

A member of the Iranian Parliament’s Presiding Board, Mahmoud Sadeqi, said on Tuesday that the motion had been prepared after the European trio — France, Britain and Germany — triggered a dispute mechanism devised in the deal, which could lead to the restoration of UN Security Council Sanctions against Iran.

“This threat is very illogical and unacceptable because Iran has reduced its commitments within the framework of the JCPOA and following US violation of its obligations,” Sadeqi, who has presented the motion, said, using an acronym for the official name of the nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran, he added, “has not been the initiator of JCPOA violations and has merely adopted a retaliatory measure against the other parties’ breached of the accord.”

It is still not clear when the Iranian lawmakers will discuss the motion and put it to vote. To become a law, the proposal needs to be passed by lawmakers and then vetted by Iran’s oversight Guardian Council for compliance with the Constitution.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on January 20 that if the three sides continue their unjustifiable conduct and move to send Iran’s nuclear case to the United Nations Security Council, Tehran would have the option of leaving the NPT.

“If Europeans keep up their actions based on political games, we have various options because their actions lack legal standing,” Zarif said.

The brief conflict that happened between Iran and US over Soleimaini assassination has revealed that US can not do more that sanction to Iran. And this has given Iran more courage to withdraw from Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. If this is achieved it will give Iran every right to own nuclear war heads as much as it could acquire.

Israel, India, Pakistan are not signatories to the NPT so i don't know why Iran should be a party to it.

All countries should either sign NPT or withdraw from it.
